I've been dealing with this issue for several years now. The 440 in my Duster will not hold torque on the oil pan bolts. The pan is a Milodon, two of the black fiber type gaskets, windage tray, and the bolts are ARP stainless. I have to re-tighten the bolts every few weeks or I get leaks. Is there any way to correct this? Should I try loctite, thread sealant, or just get some regular steel bolts? Thanks

I got tired of them doing this to went to studs and used the nuts that have the serrations to keep them locked in place

Several choices on this, duoble nut it, use a locknut or some kind of liquid threadlocker work luck I've used locknuts on studs but they usually will back the stud out, the other option on the sereated locknuts works fine on steel, not so good on aluminum oil pans work I usually use small diameter 5/16 AN flat washers between the pan and the nuts also, the better choice may be stock type oil pan bolts from Ma Mopar up scope

All of the above but you also need to look at better crank case evacuation. Just a thought.

Do your oil pan bolts have the serrated "washer" surface built in? I think I have ARPs that have that.

This has been on my mind too. I tried hooking up a PCV last year and it made the car smell terrible, burn your eyes rich.

Is that the only nuts that are coming loose? Maybe you have a unbalanced engine that is causing a little to much vibrations.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

How about you try a better quality oil pan gasket?
Your gasket is soft, therefore will not maintain enough load to keep the bolt torqued.

I have Never had to re-torque my oil pan bolts and the gasket been on for 8 years, grade 5 hardware store bolts and plain old flat washers wink

Roadhazard, I know. I kick myself everyday for not replacing them with your gaskets back in 2013 when I had the motor out of the car. And to answer the above question about other bolts coming loose, These are the only ones I have to touch on the car. Everything else stays where I torque it.

Had this problem on the max wedge years ago. Got back from races and there would be a few missing. Tried everything. Went to the service manual and they said torque to a certain inch pound, I think 30,they never came loose again. These where stock bolts. That's all I do now to keep tight. The engineers get big money to figure these things out so I use the info they give.
