I have a elec. distributor (Autoline 605 on the tag) that was in a 72 m home 440 that i pick up a few years ago and i don't know what the dist. is from (i never used it). Looks like the vac advance is shot and so is the mag. pick up. The dist. spins freely and no wobble in the shaft. So i would like to upgraded some parts.

1- the vac advance is marked 8L on the one i have, but i see there is 8" and 10.5" listed so is the 8" the one i need? Standard M P # VC188

2- pickup Standard M P #LX102

3- Ignition Reluctor Standard M P #LX104

Standard Motor Products seem to be the brand sold by Jeggs and Summit as replacement parts for the Mopar distributors are there better parts for this dist. or are these parts fine?

Are there more improvements that can be made to make it work better?

Thanks nick

tight bushings (you said OK there). replace the pickup & vac adv (10.5) as needed. reluctor is bad? SMP brand is fine. check the pin that connects the top plate for slop. set gap at .008". check rotor phasing. NAPA Echlin MO3000 rotor with .060" longe blade ($8 & change out the door). cap with ribs underneath & brass terminals. set initial then total (slots) to 36 (initial+slots) then springs then adj the can (CCW slows the slope). Nacho modified the adv plate so the reluctor gap changed only .001" as the can moved the plate thru its travel. I'm gonna do it but ain't got to it yet. drive out the lower roll pin/remove the plastic collar & add shims (speedway motors has a kit) & want no bevel on the washers you use to reduce end play to .005". peen the lower tang or weld it up so there is no rotational slop in the tang/intergear slot fitment which alters cam phasing & shows up as spark scatter when using your timing light. that's it for dist blueprinting

I will be order the parts for the upgrade as soon as i know exactly what to order.
The vac adv i should get is 10.5" not the 8? The reluctor looks ok, but for $6 i can change it out. The cap i'll be getting is hei because i have new wires that fit it.
Will i need new springs and are TD springs ok? Speedway kit for collar and shim, i can't find it on there w/s do you have a part #.

set initial then total (slots) to 36 (initial+slots), I get it but i may need some help.

Nacho modified the adv plate, is there a diagram or sketch of what was done?

peen the lower tang or weld it up, to be honest no clue!

I will need some help down the road.

thanks RapidRobert

holler anytime. I ain't sure how Nacho altered the pivot angle to make it more concentric cuz I ain't got into it yet. the speedway part number is 545-26140. I would get the 10.5 can then you can shim the arm notch later as needed. Peen or weld, alot depends on how much play you have. yes new springs to get it spot on & what are TD springs?

Those (TD) springs are certainly cheap enough, the shipping will be more than 3 bucks. I would suggest starting out with the OE light spring and one of those TD springs & see if it pings at WOT and also in your driveway note the RPM that the slots are maxing out at just for good record keeping for a baseline. you want to go heavier till it just stops pinging (at WOT on your hottest/driest day). Actually you want to start heavy then go light till it starts to talk then back up a bit as pinging is very damaging. I would set the initial then weld the slots then play with springs then start on the can
