Im not a proficient truck person YET ,
I have this 66 and the slant six is boring
I have a magnum 360 that doesn’t have a home
How crazy is the swap ?
should I use the existing 4 speed to simplify linkage , etc , ie Hydarulic clutch .
Im almost sure there is a different bell housing necessary ?
Or should I swap with an 833 ?
Don’t ask me why Im considering this , But if its easy , I may try it .
Because Stock Sucks as Mike Bonsanti ( HPMIKE ) says
Shumaker doesnt show a swap kit only to b / rb ..
Any opinions or past experience would be great . Thanks , Andy

Dodge made those trucks with 318s, so a 360 is not a big stretch. Its possible your slant 6 has a small block bell housing on it, where is your starter located? Is it in the typical slant 6 location, or is it below the trans centerline? Below the centerline should be a V8 bell and you should be able to use that on the 360, but you will need to address the flywheel balance issue with the 360 (the slant 6 flywheel probably won't work).
There are a few challenges with using a Magnum, depending on what year.
The newer motors don't have the same engine mounting brackets that the old A (or Polly as they called it, which would have been the V8 in your 66) & LA motors had, and the slant 6 brackets on the frame will not match up with your motor mount locations.
The magnum motors do not have a provision for a mechanical fuel pump, which will have to be addressed.
Are you keeping the efi, or switching to carb?

I had a 66 3/4 ton Camper Special with the polly 318, granny gear 4 speed, and a 4:10 sure grip. That truck was a beast, even though it was a 2 wheel drive, you could go about anywhere. It was a great truck until its rotted out body wouldn't pass inspection any more. Gene

Thanks for the reply - it gives me some inititiative to research
the swap .
The thing that kills me is the axles and wheel adaptability
Im thinking that will be an expensive part of the project .
I think that lowered and modernized , it would be a very
intimidating truck..
But looking for ideas ..
Ive just only played with 68-71 bbodies..
This is a whole new animal to me ..

As far as swaps go it shouldn't be difficult. Sweptlines of that vintage had LA motors swapped into them left and right. They even came with bigblocks.

There's a writeup in this forum under the subject "frame width".
There are also at least four other threads about swapping engines into Sweptlines. Use your search feature.

I tried to swap in a later model 318 (non-magnum)into a 1969 318 truck on the CHEAP. As in I didn't want to spend 2K updating, because I could buy a later truck for that. It was to get a truck up and running cheap, not update a classic.

I ended up getting rid of the whole mess.
Front pulley/damper/water pump are different.
The later engine water pump requires a different outlet radiator. IIRC, there was also clearance issues. The early water pumps are shorter.

The bellhousing requires a specific flywheel. To swap in a 360, there wasn't an aftermarket new flywheel. You have to get yours drilled for external balance and hope it's in good shape.

Nothing that can't be overcome, but both ends of the engine need work to get it in and it's not just a simple parts list. It will cost time and money. Not a huge amount, but be warned it isn't a <$500 weekend swap.
I'd suggest just going in with the idea that everything from the radiator back to the driveshaft will be replaced and modded to fit well.

The Sweptline forum will help with more specifics. Don't forget that you want to upgrade the stopping when updating the HP.

Dude. It looks so good with the tread. I say swap the motors and maybe add an A833 trans and leave it sitting that high.

I swapped an overdrive A833 into my 69D100. I had to make a new transmission mount crossmember and also make a shifter hump in the floor. but it was worth it I love the A833 and with the overdrive I can drive anywhere with out running the crap out of it to get there.
I also changed everything out on the front of my 318 from the early 68 waterpump to the later 70 and newer style because my radiator went bad and I had one from a 72 that was almost like new. I had to change the timing cover, water pump, harmonic balancer , pulleys and hoses.
