I am in the process of redoing the firewall in the Cuda and am looking to flatter (copy) some idea as from others. I am basically looking to fill/cover all the holes. I am guessing most racers have done some form of this. Any pics, advice and direction for filling/covering etc is appreciated!

Got tired of filling every single hole and made a complete panel. Rolled the bead in it to stiffen it , found this to work quite well.

Depends what you like. The bead rolled piece above is very nice. I wanted my engine compartment to retain the stock style sheet metal with a race style upgrade.

Smoothing the firewall is a nice thought but where do you stop, those upper portions of the airbox are probably the most wrinkled and ugliest pieces of all !!!

I am always impressed by the quality of work I see on this site. I would be so lucky to end up with anything as clean as what has been pictures above. It seems the most common way is to cover the holes? I see one riveted. How about the others. Are they bonded? BTA looks like aftermarket painted to match the car. Super clean. For those that smooth..what's your process? Backing..filler..etc

Mine in progress. I have a welding spoon for plug welding the small holes. Just made templates and cut out pieces from those and welded it up.

I kept what I needed with this and welded, ground and patched everything from there. Car was original AC car so a new 1 piece patch was welded in and moved forward to align with all of the higher spots on the firewall. All other holes were welded shut and all of the waves in the inner fender wells and firewall were smoothed out. They're a lot easier to keep clean when they're smooth and have good paint on them.

A couple months I was in a very high end shop and they were just putting the finishing touches on a high end resto-mod 67 hemi GTX. The thing was gorgeous and flawless but being a resto-mod they didn't modify much of the sheet metal so the firewall, although cleaned up somewhat, still had the factory ripples etc. But what they did do to minimize the impact was shoot the entire engine compartment and underside with a flattened clearcoat. Taking some of the gloss away really made a difference.

Well I am feeling a bit inept now having see these pictures and the cars at the NMCA race here the past weekend. I am not sure if I have more rust to deal with or if you all are just that much better. I think it's the latter.

Always impressed...please anyone with more ideas, please share.
