I have a 92 Dakota with a Magnum 318 and 180k miles on it. The oil pressurs gauge doesn't register any pressure. I just got this truck and this was the first time I drove it. It didn't make any funny sounds or start "ticking" so I want to assume that the pressure is OK. I didn't drive it hard or too far but I am concerned that there may be a problem. It has no leaks and I was told it doesn't burn much oil, less than a qt every 3k. Do these have a history of oil pressure problems? Where is the pressure sending unit so I can pull it and install a mechanical gauge to check. HELP as I like this truck and don't want to screw it up.

(1)no (2) top rear of block behind dist You're in luck because if the oil psi really was zero you'd already have a problem & would have no doubt about it so it's just the gauge(or that circuit more likely)

Put a real mechanical gauge on it. If it is really low you'll want to pull the pan and you'll likely find the oil pump pickup screen to be clogged. That happens a lot on these engines.

Well I just talked to the previous owner, my brother, and according to him the gauge quit working about 8 years ago. I'm now thinking that this was aruond the time that the trany was rebuilt so I'm inclined to think they pinched the wire between the trany and block. But that will have to wait until tomorrow so I have enough light.
