For conversation's sake, What do you say we take a "Moparts" shot at defining what is and isnt' a "street" car (as opposed to a race-car thats on the street). I'll start with a few basics, and every few days I'll list out a current outline of what we decide defines a street-car. Anywhere the line isn't clear, we'll add a poll, accept the results, and move on to the next issue. Here's my starting Points: -Completely street legal (will pass the inspection of any cop in a bad mood) -can run on pump gasoline. Thats enough to get us started, where do we go from here???

As far as I'm concerned it has to have a plate, and insurance (at least in CT). Everything else - from fuel to a cop's inspection, is subjective on the part of the owner/driver/authorities. It always comes down to "hope you brung enough"...lol.
Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.

I'd think it should have DOT approved rubber...as does Mr. Policeman. With today's compound's traction shouldn't be a problem. This from someone who runs slicks... I do think all the factory equipment should be working. Ultimately it just has to go A to B then B to A without a trailer or a rollback.
...FAFO...

Also.. full operating lights.. turn signals, brake lights, head lights and a horn... these are Drag Week rules so I dont see why it would be any different... ALSO.. must have the vic ID tag on the dash

Feel free to add or take away from the list...
MUST HAVE license insurance DOT tires pump gas lights horns turn signal brake light VIN number mufflers rear view/side mirror bumpers
CANT HAVE slicks wheelie bars parachute
I know that on OLD cars/trucks the mirrors on the outside werent needed by law.. but I know that guys with OLD rides still put a mirror on so I dont know for fact if its required by law on a old ride... but I think if it doesnt then a historic plate MIGHT be needed ... all the rest on your list I'm good with

What is wrong with wheelie bars and a 'chute? Tag, insurance, mufflers, glass windows, lights work... street car.
If you can name one production car that came standard (or as an option) with chutes or bars.. I will change my opinion..

I myself dont care if its got a chute and bars as long as its got all the rest of the legal stuff.. the bars and chute are legal on DW.... also on that list it didnt say that it has to drive a X amount of distance... but to me this just help define a street car... JMO on this part

Not to be rude, but this has been beat to death for years....And I think drag week has defined it best as the ultimate "street car" challenge.....You want bragging rights....That is where the metal meets the road. I only hope some day to be able to participate....I watch it every year, and it is amazing the behind the scenes and all the stories that happen and unfold.... Quote:

You would be in violation of NHRA rules on all the faster cars without the chute...

I think we have our first poll items. We'll try to look at a minimum of 10 answers, or wait until we have a clear decision on each.
