Hey guys,

I am in the middle of building/rebuilding my '70 Cuda. Originally I was going for straight line fast, but recently decided I wanted to make it a bit of a corner carver, or as much as an old car can anyways. I will have a 496 up front, so it won't be as nimble as some of the small block cars.

I have gathered up all the typical handling parts for the front: 1.12 torsion bars, 1.25 sway bars, Welded K, braced LCA, Hotchkis UCAs, etc, but I still have stock 10.95 discs and drums out back.

I talked with Cass @ DoctorDiff and he was super helpful, but I am still torn between his Stage 3 and Stage 4 kit. The reality of it is I likely won't make it out to a track or autocross event all that much. Most of my time driving the car will likely be out on the street or on the twisty back roads, which seems like the Stage 3 is more than adequate for my needs.

Either way, my 15s won't fit, so I am not held back by wheels. The Stage 4 looks killer sitting behind an 18, but is it worth the extra cash? The difference in price is 2/3 the cost of new rear leafs, which I still need to buy, among a still pretty long list of parts. I know the Stage 3 is likely adequate for my needs, but I figured I would consult the gurus here in this sub before pulling the trigger.

Thanks!

I don't know the diff. so any chance of listing the differenses? Yes I'm too lazy today to look at Cass's web site, am working on boat accessories, and watching tv.

The info on the stage 3 shows it to be more than great for your intended use.

BUT! If in the future you get the autocross bug seriously, the stage 3 will be fine, but of course the stage 4 will be better. So, will you ever get 'the bug'?

This might help: http://www.doctordiff.com/blog/documentation/disc-brake-kit-comparison/

The stage 4 kit sounds like a replacement to the viper kit. Both stage 3 and 4 have the same rotor, but they have different calipers. The stage 3 is a Cobra based caliper. The stage 4 caliper sticks out a bit further which could cause headaches when fitting wheels.

Seems like most folks here run the stage 4 or Viper or Amg swap. I would just like some advice is all.

I'm leaning towards the Viper brackets and 11.75" C body rotors unless someone tells me its a bad idea... I already have 10" drum spindles on the car, so it seems like a viable choice.

The choice was simple for me as I got the biggest brake system I could afford, Cass's Stage 4 non-drilled
With the weight of our cars you can never have too much brakes

Where did you get those rotors from? After my drilled rotors get worn out or start to crack, I'm going to be looking for a slotted/non-drilled rotor.

Hey! Those are the aluminum hat rotors I wanted to buy,
but Cass never sold me a set.

Thanks for everyones opinion. I opted for Stage 3 for now. The extra cash saved will go towards getting the car back on the road for now. In the future I would love to be able to autocross the car and take it to track events, but until then I know I will need to spend a lot of time dialing everything in, even after everything is put together. I hate buying things twice though.

I almost caved and went Stage 4, purely because of aesthetics.

Cass AKA Dr Diff. They were a added cost option on the Stage 4 kit. They are Baer rotors. I asked they be slotted but not drilled, took a little longer to get. The other "option" I opted for was the aluminum hubs. The aluminum hubs swallow up a 2" stud, so I have since swapped them out to 3".

I'm sure if you call him and give him your credit card info he can fix that for you.

Only 2 of us have done AMG swaps. I think a couple more used Andy F's Mercedes rotor kit.

I think the Cobra calipers are a great way to go. They will do everything a street car needs and are easier to fit under a set of wheels.

What is the consensus on the Dr Diff Viper caliper kit using c body 11.75 x 1.25 rotors?

Just wondering what Mercedes rotors guys are using, all the ones ive found are a 5x112 bolt pattern? Id think the newer dodge rotors at 5x115 would be a closer fit no?

The Mercedes rotor is what he uses for the Stage 4 kit. He redrills it to a 5x114.3.

I'm in the process of doing a Brembo ZR/Zl18, 6 piston caliper swap...

Using the Dr.Diff hubs, modified Mercedes 13" rotors, 72 disc brake spindle or the drum brake spindle. Haven't figured it out yet...

I have to make a bracket like this one:

Back on topic! I think the Stage 4 kit is the best way to go...

The disc brake spindle will likely offer better solutions.

Those calipers are going to be tought to mount either way. Luckily, the 8 piston AMG calipers I used had a removable bracket that allowed a radial mount.
