Started the new 540 on pump gas and ran it up to 200 degrees a few times, then I out on one of my customer new ProSystems pump gas nitrous carb to make the first pass to seat the rings before switching over to Methanol.

First pass it ran a 9.58 at 140 and the water temp got up to 220...(I always pull into the water box at 160) so the carb was too lean but didn't lay over. And then I switched over to the methanol carb.

Well not the results I was expecting. It ran 9.58 when all the intake valves were hitting the Pistons and then blew up Frankenstein 1 so I figured going from a 528 to 540 and the valves not hitting the Pistons it could run a high 9.30 but it must be waaaay lean on the methanol carb because it left harder but was quite a bit slower all the rest of the way down the track as you can see. But about the same MPH. 9.64 at 140

I only had time to make 2 passes so I'll do some tuning on the carb next weekend.

Even with the methanol it got up to 200 so it was pretty lean too.

Picked the wheels up quite a bit more on methanol.

Just wondering,
What's the normal expected amount of heat/temperature rise you should expect from waterbox to end of pass (when you turn on the return road)?

Kayse can't keep up at all now. lol

Methanol always added a lot of torque for me. Get the jetting right and I doubt it runs over 180-185. The stat will also help burn off condensation in the motor and prevent milky oil.
I had to start running a T-stat to ever reach a 160 temp under normal racing conditions. (dirt car)

On alcohol I would expect to build about 20 degrees of heat from the water box to the finish line, so it build 40 degrees so pretty lean. (so 160 to 180)

Typically on my last pass after picking up the time slip I will turn the water pump and fan off and get the motor to over 185 and then pull it up to the trailer so I don't have to start it again. This allows all the alcohol and condensation build up in the motor to evaporate and not milk your oil.

I've heard of guys changing there oil after every race but I don't change it all year long. With this new motor, I used Brad Penn 30wt break in oil, but after this weekend, I'll drain it and put in Brad Penn 20w50 and run it the rest of the year, and just cut the filter open 1 or 2 times throughout the season.

Actually this year I'm thinking about not even changing the oil in my wife's '68 that I raced all year while mine was down. I'll pull the filter and cut it open an if it looks good I'm just going to fill the filter up and run the same oil again this year.

When do you drain your fuel bowls?
I used to drain mine when the night was over and fill with race gas then. Start it at the shop to warm it up and check everything over 3 or 4 hours before race time. Race and then repeat...

Drilled out some new/bigger jets and went to the track today, no where near the weather we had last week, lots of moisture in the air from rain Friday and Saturday morning.

But it picked up a tenth, still a little lean.

I think it has a 9.38 in it with a little more jet, better weather and fresher track (I made it to Test-n-Tune 15 min before they closed so the track was going away), but I did get 3 passes in 15 min, well I ran out of methanol on the last one but got a reaction time and 60' time.

I saw your first two passes, left before the last pass. The car looked good.

I found out why it was making so much heat.... Somehow the timing moved or I just messed up when I set it initially from 33 to 55 degrees. So I moved it back to 32 and its a whole new animal.

It's leaving hard right so the only 1/4 mile pass I made I had to get out of it when it came down from the wheelie to get it going back straight. It ran a 9.41 at 143. The next round I was able to stay in it and just steer it back straight and it went 5.93 in the 1/8 which was about a .10 faster than the 1/8 mike time on the 1/4 pass so I think it would have ran at least a 9.31 at 145.

Need to get it to leave straight so don't have to get out if it or try to steer it back into the groove. I'll work on getting that fixed this week.

Weather was really nice, someone said the altitude was 750 feet so it was running good.

Adjust the ladder bars and got her leaving straight now.

New best and I think she has some left in her, the weather wasn't all that great either.
