Someone did the switch on you. Like he said, black plastic on Cudas and S's. Gray plastic on the regular cars.

Next to the mesh grill only, silver argent, mine have no paint under hood side, two sets silver, two sets black in various stages of wear and tear. Back in the day silver ones where easier to find in bone yards then the black ones, so they where just painted to match.
