It's time to role new bearings into my 470. It has a 440 source crank with a large radius. When I built it I had to carve extra chamfer into the rod bearing. Dose anyone know of bearings with more crearance than a cleavite h series.

I'm pretty sure the Clevite 743's are just made narrow now so no need to champher them any more.

Are the 743's narrower than the unchamfered area of the old bearings.

I think they're just made at the width of the old unchamphered area of the earlier bearing. Do you still need it narrower than that?

Is your crank at BBC width, or Chrysler on the rods?

Yes, I had to add more chamfer to the old bearings. I'm would like to know if the federal mogul, Sealed power, or any of the other cleavite series bearing have cearance for larger radiuses.

would be about the narrowest bearing you could get, it should fit the 440source crank with no scraping. At least the last one I did was just fine OOTB.

Thanks The x must be for the exta .001" of oil crearance. How much clearance did you set it up for?

You would want a CB-743HN, which is a narrowed bearing. The X is for extra clearance, but there is no way of knowing whether or not you need that until you mic the crank and measure the rod bore with the bearing installed. At that point you would determine which size bearing to put in. Most aftermarket performance cranks will measure 2.199-2.1995 on the rod journals, but I dont know about the 440 Source stuff. If it measures 2.100 I'd be willing to bet you'll need an "x". If you dont have a way to measure both the crank and rod bore, take it to a machine shop. This ( bearing clearance) is not a place to make a mistake or assumption.

It is easy to find bearings that fit the 2.200 rod journal. One more reason to not use the big Mopar rod bearing size anymore.

For the BB Chevy size you can get narrowed bearings, bearings with chamfers, extra clearance bearings, etc.

Thank you competitionwedge. I'm already useing a standard bearing with success, so the nh bearing will work fine.

You can get a lot of bearing for the bb chryslers also due to top fuel and top alchohal teams that run them. I even have a budy that runs a aa/gas car with a shotgun Ford that has Chysler size journals for bearing selection an streangth.

If the engine will see any kind of RPM at all, I would be looking for .003-.0035 minimal. About the same on the mains.
