I'm looking at a newer engine for my car. One roller LA I found comes with a 727 out of a 90 Ram - owner says it is for a #241 transfer case.
I've spent some time searching on 4WD and Mopar forums, but I can't figure out if this trans is direct-fit, if I could just swap the tailshaft from my current trans, or if it requires a different length output shaft or something else too expensive to be worthwhile.
Can I do it? It's going into my 67 Coronet station wagon. If I could drop in the whole shebang as a unit that'd be sweeeet...

To use the 4WD trans in a passenger car you'd need to swap both the output shaft and tailhousing. Problem is, the '67 output shaft is incompatible with the '90 front planetary gear due to a change in the spline angle.
If the current '67 trans is a SB you could just mate the '90 motor to it keeping mind that a 360 needs an external balanced converter or flexplate. A 318 is a direct swap.

Darn, OK. I do have a SB 727 right now; both sources I'm looking at right now are 360s but are also parting transmissions, so a TC shouldn't be a big deal.
