What brand and type of rear gear oil do you recommend for 8 3/4 rear with clutch type Sure Grip. My rear housing gets pretty hot, and am looking for an oil that might make it run a little cooler. Thanks.

I think doc diff recommends 85w/140w conventional with a bottle of ford FM. That said I have Torco RGO 85/140 ready to go in this spring.

IF it's overheating then a different fluid ain't gonna cure that. IF (big IF) it's overheating then something is too tight.
I run conventional 75/90 with the Ford friction modifier in mine.

How hot to the touch of the rear housing is considered to hot? Thanks.

I am not sure, but I think around 150 is pretty normal. Doc Diff may chime in with the answer.

All rears run hot enough to almost burn your hand. In other words, it is very uncomfortable to the touch.
