this is Magnum. not LA.

Mounts are the same.

everything from the 5.2 to the 5.9 is the same on the Magnum motors, except for the front harmonic dampner, and the flexplate, due to engine balance.

Computer WILL learn the 5.9 at part throttle cruise as the computer adjusts AFR by reading the O2 sensors. The cam on the 5.2 is bigger than the 5.9, so the motors aren't that much different from each other, so as said, stock computer will be fine on a stock 5.9, but if you start tossing intake, headers, etc. at it, then you may want to look at using SCT to get a custom tune.

--Heck, SCT will give you a considerable bump in HP over the stock tunes.

Also, 92-95 Magnum motors are OBD I with EGR on the intake, while 96-02 are OBD II, no EGR. The computers, wiring and sensors are different. There are not many tuning options for the OBD I.

I swapped a 2000 5.9L into my 94 5.2L Ram. Used all the 5.2L wiring and even used the 5.2L computer, until I got a working computer from Ebay (first one was fried). I didn't notice a difference with the 5.9L comp.

Missed the 95 model year. OBD I, can't tune it with SCT.

LA motors were no longer made after 1993. 5.2L Magnum came out in 92, and the 5.9L Magnum was 93.

98 was the year it changed over from balanced converter to flex plate.
connections are different before to after for electronics, so be sure you match up if they are different years.
so assuming yours is a 98 and up 5.2 to the 98 5.9, yes, you just need the balanced flex plate and you are good to go.

I swapped a 99 Dakota 5.2 into my 88 Jeep that was carbed. To do it I used a 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee wiring harness. So basically what you're doing, a 99 engine with a 95 harness.

The sensors on the 98 will have different connectors on them. You will have to swap your throttle body sensors, etc all from the 5.2 onto the 5.9. Also the 95 will have a coolant sensor on the intake manifold that the 98 will not have. You will have to drill and tap for this sensor. The intake is aluminum and very easy to drill and tap.

Also I believe the later year injectors flow more than the earlier year ones. Since your computer is expecting a certain amount of fuel flow, I would swap the injectors over from the old 5.2 to the 5.9. The added benefit of this is the ECU in stock form is said to way over fuel at full throttle so I bet having a 5.9 in there wouldn't be a bad thing. Will surely perform better than the OBD-2 era 5.9's with the death flash.
