Its a 69 Charger, original power window car. All window parts and motors were completely redone and reinstalled. All motors were bench tested and work great. The fronts were installed and I tested them with a battery charger and they roll up great. The rear quarter windows motors however, just make the sound that they are turning but the window wont go up or down. I can manually move up the windows with out problem, so they are not stuck or binding. Everything was well greased with new rollers.

Anyone run into this before?

Thanks,
CAC

Sounds like the "safety-releases" or whatever they are called inside the driven gear in the window motor gearbox have broken.

It has been over 20 years since I fooled with them, but it was a pretty common failure, the poor mans cure was to replace the safety gizmo inside the gear with something unbreakable, I used short lengths of appropriate sized copper tubing, about 1/2" long, I think maybe 3/8" tube? Maybe bigger ...

Pull the motor from the regulator, remove the cover, then the gear ... you will see what is needed.

I have no idea if the factory (or aftermarket) parts are available, but those motors were pretty much the same from at least the early 60s thru I think the 80's.

It takes gasoline to interest me.

And the gear inside the motors are plastic and sometimes break or strip out. Sounds like the motor is working but the gear is not turning.

This is the problem , I just made some replacement rods for a friend out of round plastic stock that he got at home depot.

Dorman has a replacement kit , it's the same for an 80's chevy pickup, save your money , made in china and the parts would all actually fit together , I just returned it instead of wasting time on it .

Took motors out and put power while holding the lift gear, the clutch inside the gear is bad on both motors. By clutch I mean the inner part of the gear as the actual teeth are part of a thin ring around the clutch. So been looking up new power lift gears and they sell on many sites. Only problem is that the motor takes a 45 tooth gear, while all the aftermarket gears are 41 teeth, which shouldnt fit. right?
