I have a 69 charger with a 440 I need a new fuel sending unit, the one in the car now is a 5/16. I want to get a 3/8 sending unit and change the fuel line to 3/8, do I have to run a return line for the 3/8 sending unit ? Can I plug the return line nipple on the 3/8 sending unit and just run a 3/8 line to the fuel pump and run it like that ? Thats the way the 5/16 set up is. Alan

A 1969 Mopar should only have one fitting coming off the sending unit. Buy the 3/8 float and send the line right to the fuel pump. If you have a vented gas cap you won`t have a problem.

(1)no (2)yes EDIT a return line is very good for combating vapor lock if you have that issue next summer & are easier on the pump as it is never deadheaded & if necc you can vary the orifice to the lower the psi if your pump psi is right on the edge of overpowering the needle/seat but there needs to be enough volume(by checking psi) at the end of the straights.

I just did that upgrade. I plugged the return line on the sending unit. My car has a vent hooked to the gas tank filler neck. I don't believe my cap is vented.

Thanks guys for the info, I have never had any vapor lock problems. I'm going to plug the return and run a new 3/8 fuel line Alan
