My 440 was had a true 9.5:1 CR and was rated at 350 HP.

With nothing more than a mild cam and set of small headers it was putting out an easy 400 according to my dragstrip times.

Stock intake, heads, valves, bore, pistons, etc.

Yes the cheap headers with a true 2.5" dual exhaust and cheapie turbo mufflers should be the standard for a decent 440 engine. If you have the money than by all means check into Thorley or TTI but the $129 summit cheapos will be fine.

I got the summit headers and their 3" kit for under $350 total. TTi's are nice but not worth the price. You can use your exhaust mani studs w/ the summits too.

Summit was out of their house brand for weeks a few years back. They subbed Walker Dynomax headers and they fit/worked REALLY well. I was impressed with the quality, fit and the way the tucked up under the car.

Shhh! Dont say TTIs are expensive. Other members will flame you calling you poor and unfit to own a mopar for not being able to cough up $800.

TTI's are overpriced. I'll take a $170 set of Hedmans with $300 of Jet-Hot ceramic coating anyday.

NEVER had a leak with hedmans in 16 years of 440 e-body applications.

You can usually find a set of used headers reasonable.I have picked up a couple sets of 1 7/8 hookers in decent shape.
For a stock/mild motor the cheapo 1 3/4 will work fine and be an improvement over manifolds with a good 2.5 exhaust system and some decent flowing mufflers. You may need to rejet the carb a little richer to see all of the gains.

I know! OVER-RATED. I too have used every el-cheapo brand under the sun and have never had a fit/leak/clearence issue. TTI no doubt makes nice stuff but I have heard just as many horror stories as I have good. And my buddy had several issues w/ a 2.5 system he put on a 4 speed RR. For the cash they charge the stuff should jump out of the box and install itself.

Big block mopar dudes have an advantage over small block mopar dudes. In the small block world we all want headers that DO NOT run any of the tubes way under the car. (ground clearnce issues!) So in order to get the headers that dont do this you must step up to Thorleys, Dougs or TTI. All expensive (TTI being ridiculous) With big blocks even the $99 headers route the tubes allowing ground clearance. What if an offshore manufacturer were to make a "SIMILAR" header to TTI for like $200.................

We couldn't get that lucky & if we did someone wouldn't use them because they are "offshore"
