Ok we have a wilwood brake kit to do the conversion from drum to disc it's a 73 dart but has drums. Talked to rep at wilwood and said drum kit fits spindles up to 72 after that there's a kit for disc to disc conversion. We took drums off and holes don't line up and the spindles are two piece held together with 5/8 bolt? What is going on? What do I need to do or get to make this kit work I don't want to have to order different kit. Thanks everyone

Post pictures. I believe I've got a set of the '73-76 drums and it's definitely one piece.

Your drum knuckles should basically look identical to this

Are the 5/8 bolts you are talking about the ones that hook to the lower ball joint? Sounds like it.

Well, either way, it sounds like you have the wrong spindles or brake kit. If your Dart has drums on it and is a '73, odds are it has '73 Drum spindles on it. Wilwood doesn't make a kit for the '73 drum spindles as you mentioned above. Your options would be to find a kit that uses the '73 drum spindles or find '72 and earlier spindles, I'd think. I'm still curious about the spindle being two pieces.

Chevy and Ford guys call them "2 piece" because the lower BJ bolts to them. Drum spindles are pretty close through the years but 72 and down had smaller bearings on A-bodies and the 9" drum spindles used smaller bolts to hold the lower bj than 10" did IIRC.

So if I get 72 spindles they'll bolt right up in there? I really don't want to have to get another kit would like to make this one work.

Yeah, they're for the '65-72 spindles 10" drum spindles (do not get the 9" drum spindles). Look in the for sale section to see if there's one or post in the wanted section. Also check FABO.

It still uses the same spindle as mentioned above.
