Hi, I have a 70 cuda convert getting some work done, and I need to get the trim off around the top, at the top of the quarters.

Do I have to take the top off to get access to screws?

No. use a small inspection mirror and a small offset phillips head tool. I have one that is low profile and will fit in spots with a half inch clearance.

At least that's what I did on my challenger. I believe cuda would bhe the same.

It's not easy, but, yes put the top down. I used a 1/4" ratchet with a #2 Phillips bit. Try to spray some penetrating oil on them also.

Ok, I got all the screws off on the main piece, but does the piece near the door jam have nuts tucked under the flange? I just removed the rear quarter glass and track, and will eventually get a good shot of feeling what is up there.

Also confused on how the back trim piece (running the length of the trunk) is attached (no visible screws). Is that pushed on only?

Please help, I dont want to pry on any of this trim as I know its rare.

The rear piece is attached with fasteners that grip the sheet metal, start at one end and pull the trim straight off the sheet metal. Tried to post a picture of the clips but not successful. The chrome parts at the quarter window on my 1971 Cuda are held on with screws, but a 1970 may have a nut towards the front.

Picture of the clips, the lower set are the clips used on the rear trim.

thanks! It does feel like the chrome piece is held on with nuts, but I am only guessing by feel. Would not expect 70 is different than 71 though.

Yes 70 Cuda is different than 71 cuda. Speed nuts are on the bottom of a 70.

71 is screwed in from the top.

Be careful with the speed nuts that you don't break the posts that the nuts screw on to.

Man, getting to those nutts was a btch. Took forever!!!. Had to take all the rear glass out and mechanism.

Now for the doors, please don't tell me I have to take the glass out? I see the one speed nut on the end, but it feels like there are more attachements along the top of the door, yet when I feel up inside the door, I don't feel anything.

And does someone make repop stainless or should I get mine restored? I don't see anything new out there for the doors (yet I see repro for the convertible trim).

Other than the one nut at the end of the trim, the rest of the door trim is held on with plastic clips. The plastic is probably brittle from age and will likely break when removed. If you have a trim stick, you can try to carefully pry it off the clips.
I bought the door trim years ago and not sure where I got them, maybe Metro parts, had to buy the hardtop set which includes the quarter glass trim.

thanks! anything to not have to take that glass out.
The good news is my car made it to the body shop today!!!, to start the restoration project. When done, it should look like this (its twin).

Does it have blue and white interior? I sold a blue 340 Cuda rag years ago that went over your way. It has blue and white interior. If so I have something small for it that's yours if you want it.

Nope, its a basic black interior car, black top, 15 inch wheels, rubber bumper, 340 4 spd. I am putting an AMD shaker on it, keeping the rest stock. Seems like many of these convertibles have come with the AM 8 track stereo, which is an odd option. I didn't realize the gilled rocker trim on the bottom was an option too, but don't know where that is listed on the window sticker or buildsheet, but its on the car since new.

I am sure the black interior will hurt in the summer! The son of the original owner of my mr norms challenger wants to buy it back to keep it in the family, If I sell it, it will be only to get another 340 convertible.

If you are recovering the seats, and not going strictly factory original, have the center sections replaced with cloth. My '71 has cloth inserts and it is not hot after the sun is on it all day.
