I have a 70 RoadRunner that is a collumn shift, has any one took a pistol grip and made it work on a 727 and look half way right? I was thinking about how I could do this and make it look decent. Has any one ever done any thing like this? Thanks

I did this "pistol grip" 71 Bench style shifter for a customers project, car ran a 727 w/gear vendors, I use a B/E body slap stik mechanism, trimmed down and hid it under the 4spd boot, the shifter handle's curves were formed first from hollow Stainless tubing which was then pressed between 2 plates to make it appear flattened and rectangular, I used a 68-70 B body console handle cable snaked down inside the curved shifter body, the handle was machined from aluminum, used factory plastic woodgrain grips, but they concealed a miniature bellcrank assy/rod which activated the cable, which activated the slap stik shifter base hidden in the 4spd boot, and the top plastic shift indicator bezel was the "trigger" to lock/release the shifter from park to the desired gear, the slap stik function was still retained...to hide the slap stick rod that ativates the actual tranny shift lever, that was reshaped for a drop link style, and was hidden under a dummy 4spd tunnel added to the stock auto floor pan, so that all that appeared to someone viewing the car was that it appeared to be a Pistol grip 4spd equipped car, a clutch pedal was also added, but it was joined to the brake pedal arm so that it "functioned" as an extension of the brake pedal, but again had the appearance of a true 4 spd car

...this was all done as pretty much a "lark" exercise in deception

I'd recommend you just put a 4/5/6 spd manual transmission in the car with the desired Pistol Grip shifter

I know I've seen "somewhere" some pistol-grip handle floor shifters that are obviously aftermarket. I've never had a good look at one in a car though. You would "probably" need an automatic console to go with it.

You don't think you could take the whole shifter mech. and make it work? It looks like with a little fab. work on the shifter rod you could make it work. I'm going to try to figure some thing out on it.
