When I bought my 69 Charger, it came with two b body am radios. One says "Chrysler Solid State" on the front and the other says "Dodge Solid State" on it. Which is correct? Why would there be two different ones?

basically:
1968 there were "Dodge" & "Plymouth" b-body AM radios
1969 there were "Chrysler" b-body AM radios (one size fits all)
but .....
what do the high (5-1/2) watt Charger ONLY AM radios say?

paging GREG

Pretty much as posted above. The 68 B body models got the Plymouth or Dodge dialface and 69's all got a Chrysler dialface.

Speaking strickly AMs , here is a quick rundown.

1968 Charger # 256 # 2884151 Dodge face with WHITE dial needle , used in Chargers only.

All other 1968 B body Dodges, Coronets, Super Bee # 252 # 2864768 ,
orange dial needle

1968 Plymouth B body Satellite GTX, Road Runner etc.used # 251 #2864767 , orange dial needle.

THEN ..in 1969 ..All B bodies, Dodge as well as Plymouth used the
Chrysler dial face radio, # 2884631 with orange dial needle.

All above radios were the standard 2 1/2 watt .
To complicate matters a bit ..some Chargers (very few) were optioned with the high powered 5 1/2 AM (with dual transistors on front, and chrome ribbed triangle shapped push buttons , VERY simular to the Monaco radio)
It had a Dodge dial face , and a white dial needle and was model # 2884064 .

General rule , If you have a 1969 B body , Charger or otherwise ,
# 2884631 is what you should have .

And one last note while on the subject of B body radios.
The 68 B AM FM was # 388 # 2864771
with the penta star on the dial face ..
and the 69 B AM FM was # 2884632 (without the penta star ).

& the '68 AM/FM radio was dealer installed or an over-the-counter ACCESSORY part NOT FACTORY INSTALLED.

Interesting , I wonder if this is why you see the RADIO DELETE on that big broadcast sheet , the car was setup for a radio but no radio was installed because it was going to be installed by the dealer ?

I'll "ASSUME" it is so that there is NO hole in the fender for an antennae.
I do know of a '68 Charger R/T that is coded for rear speaker but NO radio - it's had an AM/FM in it since the original owner took delivery. I'd bet it was due to a salesman that knew how to make the sale - "AM/FM & rear speaker, NO problem Mr. Smith".
