I got the injection up and running the other day..
sure is nice to reach in the window and turn the key
and have it jump to life on a COLD engine.. a couple
of buddies and I did a swap meet yesterday and afterwards
we stopped in my shop to have a couple of cold ones
and of course they wanted to hear it run.. so I reached
in the window and gave the key a turn.. within a
second it sprang to life sitting there idling very
nicely... I think I'll bring up the idle 50 more rpm
just for a bit smoother idle... it use to be a PITA
to keep lit when cold and would die until the 3rd
re-light...
none of that anymore ... my buddies
were impressed ... now my one buddy is thinking about
it.. asking lots of questions while we were sitting there

Great news!!!
So will you get it to the track this year or is it just a street cruiser?

Its both... I built it to do drag week.. so if DW is
on the east side of the Mississippi river this year
my buddy and I will see if we can get in... this spring
and summer I'll get some track time in do I can dial
in the car and chassis

Mike is that a Holley system? I haven't followed your build from the start but I thought I read you were using a Holley unit.
Most of the units out there are listed around the 500-550 HP range

Yes I went with the Holley HP unit... my set up is
good up to 700hp.. then if I want to go bigger I would
need a new pump and injectors... my set up right now
is 590hp

The HP limit of any system is always the fuel side. You are likely referring to "throttle body" retro-fit kits. MrP has a true "port" system, so the only limiting factor is the size of injector and pump

Mr P,

Do you have a part number for the system or did you buy it piece by piece?

Thanks

Thank you

Good to hear!
I am contemplating a similar swap on my 493.

The carb's are fun to tinker with, but the flexibility of the EFI is hard to beat.

Are you using it for the fuel only, or fuel and spark?

I went with the retro kit... it has MOST of the stuff..
I just needed to order the pump and injectors to fit
my HP range.. in my case I went with the Holley 700
pump and 48PPH injectors .. this is the kit.. but I
bought it through Monte.... I had a couple minor
issues with the kit.. 1 they forgot to ship the plug
that hooks up to the ignition and they had some issues
of bad TPS sensors.. both were sent to me free of
charge and the tech line is GREAT... the 550-500
kit is the 4150 base throttle body (1000 cfm).. they
also offer a 550-550 kit that is for a 4500 base..
if I want more air then that I have a couple of
1000 cfm throttle bodies that are the same as on
the engine now and I would add one of them.. but as
of now this should work great.....
Tony.. I see no reason it wouldnt be great for bracket
racing... hell if I want I can build up a whole new
fuel map and run it in open loop so it only gives
the amount of fuel thats in the new fuel map

I have been considering converting to EFI and I like this kit
https://www.holley.com/products/fuel_sys.../parts/550-604N
I would build my own rails and intake so this kit seems ideal and it's hard to believe all the features packed into a single ECU

What ya gonna build.. a gen 3... I was gonna put a
gen 3 in the Rampage but have changed my mind... I
will put a gen 3 in my 38 Ply sedan and that will
have injection also
EDIT
Yeah the ECU can and will do a ton of stuff.. data logger,
control nitrous, boost, timing, fans.. and a bunch
more stuff.... I have 4 inputs and 4 outputs open
to use but right now I'm not using them

No I think I will stick with the 493 for now. My buddy has a very old school Hilborn 4 port scoop type injector hat I thought would be cool mounted on a short tunnel ram base with EFI

The system I bought had all the sensors that are needed,
came with map, manifold air temp, water temp, TPS,
IAS, rails(needed to be drilled), O2 sensor, all the
bungs for the injectors(if you need them and the O2 bung... this
was a pretty much plug and play other than drilling
the rails and manifold and I did a ton of those back
at work... then welding the O2 bung on... I started
working on this but then took 2 months off and went up
to my other house to go hunting... then when I came
back I finished it up.. just the 2 minor issues with
the bad TPS and the plug for the ignition(which I
could have just soldered a wire in.. but Holley said
they would ship it out so I waited then when I started
to load the program the TPS showed a error and it
was the sensor which the tech said they had a batch
that were bad so they sent that.. all in all that might
have set me back a week(it was between Christmas and
New Years so I expected a bit of time... all in all
a very easy kit to install.. with a great tech support...
I still have to drill my W-5 intake for the injectors
(gonna change over to the W-5 heads and intake)..
I might do this this coming week

Get familiar with the slew rate, scribble a number and look straight ahead at the stripe. Should work good. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

FYI, i just did a msd atomic. i wasn't real sure but the customer pushed and was i shocked. Everything was in the kit. Put it on, set a couple of paremters and that car is out driving and learning by itself. it does the timing also if you have a msd box. A true bolt on and go. Works for 620 crankshaft HP and down.

I set the base parameters then set the TPS then
fired it up and did a few rpm set points in the shop
then I quit.. I'll wait till spring to have it start
its learning curve when I can get it on the road
EDIT
Plus I didnt want throttle body injection.. I wanted
multipont

I understand what you wanted, i was just throwing this out there for the guy who doesn't want to change his intake. Just a bolt on and go fuel injection

Holley has the same thing in the "Terminator" kit.......difference is.....if you WANT to go into ECU and tune it yourself, you can

Will it do a PWM fuel pump? I really liked that for the daily driver I put this on.
