I am putting together a 2nd generation HEMI and would like an opinion on the cam I have. This is a 484 ci, ported Stage V heads from Tim Banning, stock 2 plane intake and stock carbs. TTI headers. Comp Cams: Solid Roller, Duration @ .050 236/243, Lift, .603/.552 at valve. Lobe centerline, 113 degrees.

I'm not too familiar with solid rollers. Will this be streetable? Will it have a decent idle? Enough vacuum for power brakes? I got this cam and lifter set with a bunch of other parts purchased. Probably over $1,000 bought new, so would hate to waste it.

That Hemi will idle like a new caddilac with that cam. It's too small to really take advantage of the heads and the displacement. I'd add about 20 degrees to the duration. A stock intake will cost you a ton of power as well compared to a Stave V dual quad. Good luck, Joel

It is a good thing that you asked. You don't want to give the Hemi bashers any ammo. We don't want to be hearing a bunch of stories: "I just beat a Hemi with my 327 Nova", my stock 340, etc..
So when you build a Hemi, you have to build a raging bull elephant, not a little baby elephant holding onto its mammas tail. You have a great start with the heads and the stroke. Now you need a big rompin' cam and a decent intake to wake it up!

Thank you. You get it Joel, I swear most of the guys who have them don't. One of my friends always says "All the wrong people have Hemi's" because for what they do with them they might as well have a stock 383 or 440.

P.S. I know your Hemi GTX flies, love tht car.
