My distributor has been locked for 6 years..Compression ranging from 11.8 to 13.3....no start retard or anything, has never kicked back, and start it with the key just like from the factory. I like it, makes tming it easy(if your light is good)

Yes, every engine that idles above 3,000 RPM will do quite well with locked advance. Others... not so much.
If your engine runs the same with and without advance, there is something wrong with your cam, carb or both.
