I bought a 5.9 magnum out a junk yard with under 100k miles and had a cam made for it from bullet cams and installed a new set of heads, air gap intake for carb and plan on adding headers. It's going into 69 coronet and I'm keeping the original 318 tranny in the car.
I've purchased a special flex plate and I think I need a neutral balance torque converter as we'll.
I'm going to keep the serpentine belt set up on it and plan on using the 2001 ac set up on the engine as we'll. I'm missing all the brackets on the front of my motor but I'm buying some off another 2001 5.9 tomorrow. I plan on taking the fan, ac condenser, alt and all the brackets that hold them on. I also plan on taking the ac lines and any other parts I find in the engine bay.
My 318 motor mounts look like they wont fit correctly either?
I plan on looking for a van power steering pump as well as I guess it will fit better. I also plan on buying a new engine harness made for electronic ignition from year one. Can any one add any important info that I might be missing

so I put one into my 65 coronet with a 318 poly.

the motor mount on one side is the same the other is wider. you can use spacers or just order the correct 360 mounts.

the b&m balanced flex plate lets you use the old 318 torque converter with no other changes.

you need a 360 LA pan and gasket set and pick up for a car to bolt that motor into your car.

the van ps pump lets you actually get to the resevior to fill it. otherwise it will be under the battery tray.
however you then need a different belt to make it route.
I have the number somewhere.
but what I did was replace the idler pulley with one off a 5.7 hemi and that let me use a more "stock" factory 5.9 belt. I also have that number some where.
the difference is how much belt grab you get on some of the pulley's.

had to get a/c lines made to match up with the factory compressor and my old a/c lines.
had to get ps lines made to match up to the new pump as well.
around 50 bucks total at a local line shop. just brought both ends taped together for lenght and they put them together for me.

not sure what else, as mine was a bit different, keeping the old efi and kickdown stuff on the new engine. but those are the basics.

and I used my old vr single field electronic, but you can use the 70 and up one as well to power the newer alt.

Great info thanks!
I forgot to mention I installed the correct oil pan already. The flex plate I have is the one you mentioned. They no longer make them but I found one on ebay still.
I'll do the same with the ac line and have some made. It will be great to keep the a/c working for the long trips with the kids.

I didn't see you mention the fuel pump. Plumbing in an electric, or buying the snout extension to stay mechanical?

I attempted to use the stock brackets with a CrossWind (Air Gap clone) carb intake and it was going to take some cutting and grinding. Not sure about the true Air Gap but just in case be prepared.

Yah I wasn't sure how all the linkage was going to hook back up.
Also should I go with a different torque converter or will my factory 318 one be fine? Should any mods be done to the transmission.

any car 360 mounts should be fine.
I ordered the shumaker ones, before I knew I could have just used spacers on the old 318 ones.

torque converter should be fine. unless you want to change it for performance reasons, it should bolt up and run as is.

What kind and size carb should I go with? Any recommendations on what headers to use as well?

I have the Dougs headers onbmine (D453) and love them. Great plug access, great bolt access, thick flanges so no warping or leaks, fit great, no linkage goes through the tubes so install is a breeze, they dont hang low, thick tubes and nice ceramic coating keep underhood temps down. All the benefits touted about TTI's but significantly lower cost.

I'd probably step up a little on the converter. You are probably picking up 50-75hp and some torque. If this is mainly street driven call somebody like Turbo Action in Fl and see what they recommend. As for a carb, almost anything in the 600-650 range will work.
Nice car... I'd have a really hard time NOT making it a 440-6 4 speed.

If I had the extra money I would be installing a 440 six pack, dana 60, hemi 4 speed in it. I had this motor done up last year and decided it would do the job for right now. I'm thinking right around 380 hp on it. I've got to call Bullit cams and get the specs on my cam, they used my factory 5.9 cam and reground it.

as for headers, the factory magnum exhaust was apparently quite good.
the earlier 94 ish range was bigger than the later ones, but the ones I got out of a 2000 durango fit in my early b just fine. cleared power steering and everything.

at the hp you are shooting for, I am not sure headers are really needed.

380 out of a mostly stock 360 is asking a lot. I'd think you'd need to get the compression up... it will run good in any event. The truck mani's are better than the old school logs but as mentioned headers would be better.

With the cam grind, air gap intake, new heads with some work and headers, and a 750 double pumper I'd think I would pretty close to that mark.
Can't wait to fire it up and see how it goes.

So checked the motor mount situation and my original 318 motor mounts will work on the driver side like you said with a spacer but the passenger side one is missing a hole in the bracket where I need one. Should I drill it out to make it work or should I buy a different one?
