I bought all new harness for my 68 except for the main dash harness. They weren't very expensive. They are M&H harnesses bought through Year One. I waited until YO had a 30% off sale.

If you are adding any other electrical loads that weren't there from the factory, it's a good idea to use relays and upgrade the factory harnesses in a few places.

I set the old harness on the floor and made a new harness next to it, I would solder a wire (soldered uninsulated terminals/shrink wrap first) to the new harness & cut that wires' counterpart out of the old harness so the new harness took shape and the old one dissappeared so I had an exact duplicate. I bought alot of wire as you definitely want to keep the same OE colors & some have tracer colors but there is a company (maybe more than one) that sells any length of any color wire you need. I went larger on most of the wires (1 ga number smaller) and added some circuits & used new brass terminals from NAPA 725145 female and 725147 male (pricey tho, 99 cents ea) & scrubbed/reused the plastic/bakelite connectors. I can say it was ALOT of work, not sure I'd wanna do it again but my voltage drops are miniscule now

If you don't need an OEM-duplicate harness, look at American Autowire.
Used one of theirs on a customer's old Ford truck, and was real happy with it. I converted 6V/+Ground to 12V/-Ground with an Alternator. I bought it through Summit.
They do have some plug & play harnesses, but they were Chevy/Ford stuff last time I looked.
I'll use them again on an LS/FJ40 swap coming up.

Best bang for the buck depends on how you value your time... I went the M&H/Y1 route on mine also. The harness(es) are more expensive than generic but lay right in and hook up as original. You can also use the FSM for service which is nice. I too changed/upgraded a few portions, mostly the charge circuit, so alternator current does not pass through the bulkhead connector.

I'm with RapidRobert here. I made new harnesses for the bulkhead forward and the rear harness. I scored a very clean dash harness from a low mileage totaled valiant.

I have several ignition, headlight, and charging upgrades. Battery relocated, MSD blah blah blah. This was the cleanest way for me to go about it. If you have a pretty stock ride and can afford the YO harness, you have plenty of options.

Good luck with your project and Happy New Year!

I bought the complete Y1 H & M harness for my `68 Barracuda, cost about $800. The only thing I did was plan-ahead and laid out all the sub-circuits I was planning on adding: electric fuel pump, third brake light, trunk lights, and electric trunk release out back and my MSD and electric fan up front, and made and installed it with the new factory harness. I'm adding in H-4 Halogens with relays this winter so I'll be adding to my additional harness I added. Everything opens up with the split-sleeve braiding so it's easy to upgrade and I also added an auxiliary fuse panel for my added circuits.

Just checked and Y1 has 30% off for the next couple days. Not to hijack but has anyone ever used one of the Y1 dash harnesses for a 68/69 B body convertible? Thanks!

What about EZ wiring harness? Seems like I've heard of this harness......maybe a few years back?

We use American, Ron Francis, Painless, etc. and the only one that is EZ is factory. If your adding circuits, just add your circuits. The aftermarket harnesses require every switch, connector, and accessory plug be assembled with the correct plugs.... Replacement harness drops in.
