One of these days I'm gonna ditch the original rockers and get some good ones. Not sure if I want cheaper ones that "should" do fine or spend a grand on some Harland Sharps. I know Crane golds and maybe some Comp Cams ones would be fine but I just don't know about what Ratio to get.

Any drawbacks to using a 1.6 rocker in a mostly street driven application with a .510-.590 lift cam?

Don

I dug deep and went with 1.85 ratio on the intakes and 1.70 ratio on the exhausts. Seems to really work great. Last time on the dyno this 505 motor was up around 800 hp with just the Indy EZ heads.

Andy, those sure look nice but if they are Jesel rockers I'd say they are twice my budget then some!! My "CAR" budget is almost non-existant these days but I'd like to get quality rockers when I do get them. Have to lose the stockers pretty quick. I use them with the 509 cam right now but I might get a .560 lift Comp or a .590 MP cam in the not too distant future.

If you put in the .560 comp cam and install the 1.6
rockers you end up with a .597 but it depends on what
you want for duration, are they both the same duration

Mr. P, It's a 451 build that I have an XE284H for with i believe 241/247 @ .050 dur and .510 lift but I also might aquire an XE295HL which I think is 251/257 @ .050 dur and .564 lift. I was just kind of thinking that more lift from a 1.6 couldn't hurt in any situation but wanted some feedback about that as I've not played around with anything other than Stock rockers and a MP-280/474 or a MP-292/509.
Do you think the valvetrain would be OK with an XE295HL, 1.6 Rockers and a decent spring?

Don.

Valvetrain will be okay so long as your springs won't coil bind at that much valve lift and if you're running stock heads, the valve guides better be cut down far enough. Other than that no real reason not to run the 1.6's.

On the 906,s on my current motor with 1.6 rockers i had to grind a lot of material from the intake ports for pusrod clearance. 5 of the 8 ports hit the pushrods because of the 1.6 ratio which moves the pushrod seat towards the shaft.

I'd recomend 1.5s if you don't want any trouble with clearance. If you want more lift than get the right cam.

You see that between the 2 cams your looking at, there
is 10* difference and the question comes, do you like
the currant duration but want more lift, duration
moves the revs higher. So that question would need
to be anwsered first, then the next would be, do
your heads work(flow) at the higher lift or is it
just a waste of lift. But if you think your happy
with the currant duration and can use the lift then
I would use the 1.6 but then you will most likely
need springs to go along with the lift and maybe
some clearance work in the pushrod area(unsure)

I am married with kids and have a wife that hates me spending money on my car. So I am always on a tight budget so I like the the Isky ductile iron rockers that I use on my 63 for a real tight budget. These are them on my 906 heads and I shift it about 6200. They are the 1.5 rockers that work fine on my mild 446. I really cant afford to use the best parts I would like to as thats why I used the small 1-3/4 headers I got with the car. But for a tight budget I like the Isky or Crane ductile iron rockers. Ron

I completely understand what you are saying which is why I am a little on the iffy side about using the 295HL. My Dad has it in his 496 and it is one nasty little stick. I think the XE284H is probably better for my realistic driving requirements. If I had 1.5 rockers and wanted morte lift I could just get an XE285HL which I think would be very similar in idle to the 284.
Thanks for all the thoughts guys!

Don.

I don't think going to 1.6 rockers will gain you much performance, depending of course on your heads, I would bet 5HP if you were lucky. If it were me I would buy a used set of Isky or Crane ductile adjustables. You can't beat the price and the durability. (you did mention budget).
