So, I'm heavily considering trading in my Ram early in the spring for a new Charger R/T.

Is the suspension the same as the 11-13? I'm thinking some ESP action. I figure some 20x9.5s with 275s like the Hellcat for track tires.

Looking at the Hotchkis stuff already...

Everybody, spend money I don't have on something I don't have yet!

Looking to use it for some SCCA autocrossing and track days in the spring. Going to try to squeeze in a SCCA Starting Line session and get some serious seat time and pointers to improve my driving. I'm most likely going to be busy the second half of this year with other stuff so the car hobby will be on hold.

I believe Stoptech has some big brake kits for Chargers and Challengers.

I cant honestly see where it would make sense to upgrade an R/T when for pennies on the dollar you can just get the Hellcat Charger that has a 204mph topend and 15.4" 2 piece rotors with 6 piston Brembos already on it? Honestly how much money would you save? What is the price difference between a track pack R/T and a $63K Hellcat? Are planning on a no frills R/T with just the standard options?
EDIT: I just looked and I guess you can get a decently appointed R/T with road and track package for under $40K, $20K under a Hellcat. That does leave some money on the table, do they come with an 8 speed and paddle shifters though?

I thought the 392 SRTs where the sleeper ticket with performance nearly that of a Hellcat, but considerably above the RTs while having a sticker not far above the RT.

The cost of owning a Hellcat is more than just the purchase price. Wonder what the insurance hit is? For those that live in personal property tax states, what's the annual tax hit? Not to mention the dealer markup hit if you go that route. Heck the MSRP isn't much less than I bought my house for, about the same if you add the average dealer markup in. While I know you can always sleep in your car but you can;t drive your house, my old lady doesn't buy into that philosophy.

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

We helped a friend prep his SRT8 Magnum for SCCA ESP. We fit him with a set of 18x10" wheels on all four courners for track duty only. Slammed it to the ground and REALLY helped the overall package come around.
It's not the fastest thing out there, but super fun to drive. Mopar has got the big brake kits on these newer cars really dialed in. They haul down the speed really well.

You can already get the Hellcat rotors and calipers through the dealer for a price that crushes anything else aftermarket.

From my research and personal experience, this is how the 3 versions compare. There might be some minor differences because I ran Rivals once, but nothing to drastic.

At Gingerman on the long course...

2013 R/T 5.7 Challenger 6 speed with Super Track Pak, stock tires and stock brakes : 1:50.8

2013 SRT8 Core Challenger 6 speed, Rivals and stock brakes: 1:47.8

2015 Hellcat Challenger, all stock Automobile Magazine test: 1:45.8

So, the question is, can the R/T pick up 5 seconds a lap for a reasonable price? I say yes. I really think that the R/T with bolt-on's could pick up that difference.

Going from the R/T to the Core, the only change is power and brakes. Honestly, the brakes are not that big of an improvement if you are going for a single lap flyer. The split between an R/T an the Core is all power. The 5.7 can make the same power with some bolt-on's, cam swap, etc... so that is easily done.

The next 2 seconds the Hellcat has on the Core is all power and some tire. Already talked to the engineers about the brakes, the Hellcat has them for for the additional weight, marketing and repetitive lapping. Going from the Core time to the Hellcat can be done with suspension, wheels, tires and brakes. That 2 seconds at Gingerman can easily be made up by a stock engine 6.4.

Save your money, if you want to just drive the thing and do an occasional track day, buy and mod the R/T. My R/T would lay rubber for as long as I wanted, so having 707 for burnouts is not really necessary. The most epic burnout I've ever done was in my Core. It only stopped because I got bored.

They're not as cheap as I first thought, but where else do you get a 15.4" front brake setup?

Not terrible, Stoptech 15" kit is in the same price range depending on how good of a deal you can get. Any change to MC and distribution block for the Hellcat stuff needed?

Right now it looks like its a bolt on swap for SRT8's from what I gather, R/T's may need some tweaks.

I'm all about the base R/T. Base, no treble. Its the only RWD 4dr car in the budget. I don't think I'm going to do $30k in mods to the car when I have a 71 Challenger that can also earnestly use the $$$ towards unibody R&R.

Not looking to be the fastest guy. But one with lots of seat time.

Thanks Dan, I'll be hitting you up for advise when the time comes. You guys impressed the heck out of me at Carlisle and got a customer for life. I was hoping you'd say the website was outdated and the 11-13 stuff would fit no worries!

Thanks Kevin. It will be a family hauler / daily driver first. Hope to see you on the east coast again.
