I won a trip to the Rusty Wallace Driving School at Sandusky Speedway in Sandusky Ohio at our company party. It is the 20 lap school. Has anyone gone to this school? Just wondering what it will be like??

I did the RW school for 10 laps at Mighigan Speedway. Got an Amazon deal for 50% off or something.

They didn't have a lead car, just a spotter on the radio, which you could barely hear. The cars were limited to 150mph or so, so I spent a good part of the straights on the limiter.

I wanted to start carrying more corner speed, but the spotter was there to make sure you didn't do anything stupid, not to make you faster. It started raining, so they red flagged the session, and after I didn't have enough time to gain confidence that the track was dry.

It was comical, between every session they had a "crew" swapping tires out on all the cars, but they were just rotating the same sets of shagged tires between all the cars. Not that the tires were worn out, but why bother? They were using cordless impacts, with dead batteries, and the "crew" seemed marginally competent.

That being said, it was a unique experience, if it was free, I'd do it again, but I would not pay for it...

I should be ok at Sandusky. Be lucky to see 80 MPH......
We raced the hangover race on new years day a few times with cars that had no business being on the track. One year was a 71 Dodge B-body that had been through a demo.

Good luck. See if you can bring your own lid, theirs are pretty skeevy, and had been dropped/thrown/run over dozens of times.

It is a shame to learn of the accident, but after seeing it first hand, it was only a matter of time. I'm not one to bash people or businesses publicly, but I certainly questioned the car's safety and the crew members abilities when I was at MIS.

A co-worker took the class at Sandusky as well. He said the car was a p.o.s. The brakes were half F'ed. Plus he said the adjustable seat was broke. They put a foam block behind him to make for it. He said that the block was so big when pushed in the clutch it pushed him back in the seat so far he couldn't hardly shift the thing. Not sure they will allow me to use my brain bucket, it is open faced.

I'd be a little leary of going 150 mph in that kind of deal but I think it would be a blast at a 1/2 mile track like Sandusky. My friend did it at Sandusky a couple years ago and he's never been around any kind of race car before. Let us know how it goes. Are you doing it in the spring time?
