It really is a big deal, especially if you’re a dealer and know better. It’s my understanding the law states punitive damages starts at 3 times the purchase price. It’s been a while since I’ve researched the exact verbiage, it does state the punitive damages as “punishment” to the seller. The dealer selling that convertible knew very well the car had serious problems long before the ebay auction was over. http://www.shawlaws.com/carfraud.html
