will a 4.625 crank have any clearance issues in a standard cam location hemi/wedge rb aluminum block (Indy or KB) using steel rods (Oliver)?

My 4.5 stroke crank barely cleared in the World Iron block...I had only about .140 clearance. I had 2.375 journals, you might with 2.2 rod journals. Tim

Crank pin size? Hemi or wedge? Not sure on the Hemi thing, but the lobes being in different locations might become an issue at some point.

When I went from a 4.15 crank with mopar crank pin sizes to a 4.75 crank with 2.2 pin sizes, (steel rods in both), the extra clearancing was minimal. The rod to cam lobe clearance is .060 at the closest with a large roller in my case. I'm using a MP block.Dave

Guess I stand corrected - But I will have to also say, I'm not brave enough to cam clearance steel rods after they have been manufactured.

FWIW, I will also use only aluminum in builds of that nature. When I inquired about moving to a longer arm in a standard height block, I couldnt find anyone who supported that idea, so I stuck with the 4.5 and the GRP's. (I have also used BME's)

Using the C fire pattern on a std core camshaft with the tightest BC I could get my grind on, I still had to clearance the already clearanced GRP's

I was using Manley sportsmaster steel rods in my 528. The 605 uses a Eagle 7.1 rod, I did NOT have to grind on the rods or the cam lobes.

Here's the internal oiling pickup area. You can also see the bottom bore notch if you look closely.Dave

With standard cam height and a BBC 2.2 rod pin a 4.625 will clear the cam with even plate aluminum rods without cutting on the rods. You can run a 4.75 stroke with aluminum rods if you notch the rods. Steel rods make it a breeze.

My BME 426 forgings were designed for the 2.375" journal, though mine are 2.200". With a 4.5 " stroke it clears the Mega block with a slight notch. A 4.625" stroke would only be .0625" closer.

Just assembled a motor with Oliver rods and 4.625" crank with a hemi valve pattern 55mm cam,the clearance was tight (.050" ) but will work, my new motor with the same as above but a 4.750" stroke did require a small amount of material removed from (1,3,5 & 7)rods to clear....that was with a cam that has .540" lobe lift (1.026" at the valve ) both have standard cam heights.
