I bought a master cylinder a while back for my '68 Barracuda with factory front disc brakes. Paid a lot of money for it and recently when I was getting ready to finish up the brake system I realized the rubber seal under the lid was missing. Wrote the guy asking if he had one. Long story short he told me to look elsewhere. Does anyone know if they make new ones that would fit or where I might be able to find a used one? I'm hoping maybe the seal from a different, more common master cylinder would work? If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it. Thanks...

Yeah...that's who I bought the master cylinder from. When I told him it didn't have the seal he simply said, "send your address, friend". About five weeks and two e-mails later I never heard from him so I sent another e-mail and he basically told me to look elsewhere. I don't know what's going on. He always seemed friendly and ready to help before. Don't know what I'm gonna do. Guess I'll figure something out.

That aint right selling you an unusable part.
Hopefully he sold you the correct master for your car, disc brake A body would have a casting number 2225541?
I just looked at the one I have and compared the lid to the ones used on disc brake B bodies from 67-'70 and the caps sure look the same. My 2225541 sample is an NOS assembly line piece so I don't want to mess it up prying the lid off to confirm the rubber seal is indeed the same but I'm 99.5% sure it is! The Bendix seal used on the B body lids has a part number 2225441 molded into it. Raybestos and Napa sell a B body disc brake master cylinder that has the correct lid/seal and it's part number is 36283.
It would suck to have to spend $50+ for a new MC just so could pirate the seal though.
I did a quick look online and didn't see a rebuilt version, if those do exist the cost would be around half new and it would have a new seal to take from it.
Napa sells an assortment of MC caps and MC reservoir gaskets. I did a quick look at their website and saw a MC reservoir gasket p/n UP 23583 that looks correct but they give no dimensional info so I can't tell for sure. I have a 36283 sample and the cap gasket has a part number 221023 molded in it. Of course you'd want to take your cap to the store and see if that gasket fits correctly regardless of what number it has molded in it!
Let us know if this info helps!

The B body and A body bendix master have the same lid and gasket . The seal should be able to be found.

Not surprised the RAM MAN stuck it to you ...

The 71-74 gasket it wider and longer than the 67-70 A and B body disc brake cap gasket and wouldn't work for it.
This looks like the right one, though a bit pricy for just a gasket:

Here's a whole kit with the right cap gasket:

Once again, thanks for the help and good info. You guys always come thru for me. I went to Napa and looked thru a catalog they have with all sorts of gaskets and found one that looked right. The guy ordered one up and the next morning I went there with my lid and what do you know? It fit!! I guess maybe I was panicking over nothing...lol. I was so excited I left without my invoice so I'm not sure what the part number was but the package said it was for a Ford. Now I can get the brake system all done. I'm gonna have this Barracuda on the road next spring come hell or highwater!! Thanks...you guys rock!!!

I was just going to say that a ford has the same lid and you should be able to find a gasket fairly easily.
