I have put a r5 p7 in my daughters duster bracket car and we have beat the motor to death with no issues so i decided to put one in my 64 plymouth but didn't have an 8 bolt flex plate so i called Eric at JW performance in fl and he made the flex plates and hubs for the 8 bolt and the 2 different 6 bolt plates. So if anyone is considering this combination jw has these in stock and Joey Arrington at REP in N.C makes the adapter plate for a glide and also sb mopar adapter, you will have to drill and tap the plate for standard mopar starter as the jw wheel is standard 130 tooth.REP also has 100 of these motors and tons of parts for them as well.

How are you supporting the nose of the starter?

If JW is making this flexplate that is good to know. I tried getting them done by them. Never got back to me. So QuickTime is doing these flywheels to go with my bellhousings. They cert 30.1.

You guys with adapters need more spacing built into the flexplate to allow for the adapter. I only have 3/8" built into my flexplate to match a would be LA crank.

Would like to get more info on these flexplates. I have to buy 5 at a time with QuickTime.

Hey Leon,i use a standard small truck starter,it bolts directly to the adapter plate but has to be spaced out just a bit, the starter nose isn't supported,i have been running it like this for years with my old w8 motor also.Give Eric a call at jw,he has the flex plates and crank adapters on the shelf now,if you need one. These little motors are very reliable,we have 560 passes on it this year, and it was just a takeout motor,we didn't change anything, just bolted our rons alky injection on.The car weighs 2600 lb with her in it,shifting at 7800,it runs 5.50 at 124mph best,Thanks

My guess would be consistency and easier on valve train. I've met Mike and his family, they truly are good people! Bethany is a hell of a driver and the Duster has been a winning ride for some time.

Hopefully the guy who's got the old combo can get it to run just as good as you had it running Mike! .......

I don't think I have any. I don't want to speak to much for Mike but if he chimes in I'm sure he'd answer your questions. I know he's a busy dude.

My buddy had an r5 p7 in his 3000 pound dart and he only shifted it at 7800 or so.
Ran high 5's low 9.40's
Was a restrictor plate motor.
12 to 1 and the cam was only 248/258@50.
So I am not surprised a 400 pound lighter car is running those numbers at that rpm.
Those little motors make lots of steam. He had his heads flowed at a very reputable shop and they inched over 400 cfm.
Best bang for the buck out there.

Mike,
It's time to remove that BB in the dragster and drop in a R5P7. Then we won't have to scramble looking to prime that pump all the time, lol.

I have over 400 runs on my r5p7 and it hasn't so much as loosened the lash by .001. It's truly a waste of energy to remove the valve cover and look......nothing changes.

Oh, and if you guys are curious, I buzz the sh@#$ out of my motor 9000+ every run. Just ask any announcer at any big dollar bracket race. That little 358 out runs most 582 chevies on the back half as well ( 143.5 @ 660' and 178.5 @ 1320)

Guys, the moral of the story is......quit whining about how nascar motors don't do this or can't do that.......PUT YOUR CARS ON A DIET and ET's will improve drastically.

Mike

I wish I had went with these engines years ago.

I don't need to call jw sense I already have flexplates made. If you read my post you can see we have a sfi 30.1 bell to go behind these engines and use Reid cases. No sheilds, adapters, or any tricks. Just bolt it in and go. Should have on display at QuickTime booth and race parts liquidators.

We actually shifted it at 8600 for half the season and was trying to slow the car down a little so we short shifted it at 7800 and it ran exactly the same so we have just left it there.it has been 1.19 in 60 ft,leaving at 5200.It has a 1.80 low gear glide,15x33-15 tires, probably would be faster with smaller tire too. If i can figure out how to post a picture i will get it on here shortly.

Sunoco 112 blue due to rpm. A lower rpm could run 110 purple.
