When I have the bucket seats in my 69 Dart reupholstered I'd like to add headrests to them. What I would like to know is, are the internal parts already in the seats to accomodate headrests being added? I thought I read once somewhere that starting in 69 that all the seats were prepped at the factory for headrests for ease of adding them at a later date by the dealer but I don't know if this is true. I haven't taken the upholstery off the seats yet but was just curious if the seats might be headrest ready.

I heard the same and I believe it started even earlier, which was the case on my '67 Satellite when I had it reupholstered - the two holes for a headrest were in the top frame of each front bucket seat.

I'm not sure whether A bodies followed the same spec as B bodies, but by mid-'69 headrests were mandatory.

If you're reupholstering anyway, I'd crack one open and look, so you can go shopping for parts before you send them out for reupholstering.

Best, - Art

The provision for installing them is there. In other words the holes are in the seat frames. You need to go the BE&A website and look at all the internal parts that are inside the seat frame. There are some plastic and parts and some washers, etc.

What I read about the seats being prepped for headrests indicated that the seats were prepped with the internal parts in place (not just the holes in the frame) so that if headrests were to be installed at a later date the covers wouldn't have to be taken off to do so. Only the holes would need to be cut in the upholstery where the headrest posts go into the seat and then the chrome bezels installed.
