We are installing a 2007 5.9 Cummins engine in a 04 Ram 3500 with a 6 speed manual trans. We don't have the 07 Flywheel and interchange lists them as different. Does anyone know what the difference is between the 07 and newer flywheel vs the 06 and older one?

Looking on Rockauto, for the Sachs flywheel which is the only one with specs, it appears the 07 is a dual mass the other not. Dunno about balance issues though.

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

and if you replace a dual mass flywheel with a solid flywheel be prepared for a lot of noise.

I swapped a DMF fo a one piece in a F-350 the tranny did get a little louder but was worth it, the DMF was bad idea from the start, what a piece of Junk.

Use the flywheel AND the block adapter for the 04 truck. The 07 used a G56 6 spd and the 04 used a NV5600 trans. The clutch and PP also are different. My question is the 04 a 305 or 325 hp engine? You can only use the 07 engine if you have a 325 hp engine in your 04.

It is bolted in....07 adapter. 07 was an automatic. Has 04 Flywheel and clutch. 04 starter won't fit. 07 starter fits but is bad or binding...just clicks. We are going to try a different starter ...hopefully don't have to pull it back out and use the 04 adapter.

WHY WILL ONE ENGINE WORK AND THE OTHER WON'T? Thanks

Like I said you are going to have to change the block adapter too. They are different thicknesses and the starters set at different depths.
