2001 A604 transmission with auto stick feature; anyone experience one of these bind up in all forward gears, reverse and neutral with engine running. (shut engine off and vehicle rolls freely). In park its normal, you can rev the engine up etc. pull it out of park and it’s like a trans brake in all gear positions.

I pulled the solenoid pack and disassembled looking for debris or whatever, no obvious cross feeding and all four solenoids Ohm out at 1.2 and all three valves look to function correctly. Removed the valvebody and see nothing wrong with the manual valve, shuttle valves and servos. No signs of any potential of cross feeding there either, no debris in pan that would indicate transmission /gear train failure. No DTC’s from the PCM. This happened abruptly while driving with no prior indications of trouble.

I get hung up with blaming the solenoid pack, but bound up in neutral has me confused, you (I) would think the manual valve would redirect the circuit charge and take that out of play.

Ideas?????

You can turn the electronics off and be sure its not that. It sounds like an internal snap ring broke and caused damage as I have seen them lock up when a snap ring breaks in the planetary. Just unplug the trans controller and it will be in limp in which should give you park , neutrual , reverse and second gear only in drive as it is all mechanical in limp mode. The limp mode is like a fail safe to be able to drive it to a repair shop if it has an electronics problem. Ron

Ideally with that trans I'd want to see dtc's, and the clutch volume index numbers.... the CVI's might tell a story.
