Good evening everyone. I have a question that I can't believe would be uncommon. I am in the middle of a restoration of a 69 road runner and like many other cars the left-hand inner fender had to be replaced. The new inner fender has mounting holes for the data plate, but I am reluctant to just remove the old data plate and remount it because I don't want to be accused later of "swapping" plates or anything else underhanded like that.

Is there an excepted way to transfer a data plate from an original inner fender to a new one? Is there an industry practice or standard of what is acceptable? I have thought about just cutting the steel around it and welding it into the new inner fender or something like that.

Any suggestions? Any help at all is greatly appreciated. I'm very thankful to the folks on this board who have helped me over the years.

A Phillips head screwdriver works best.

State departments of vehicles don't care about fender tags. Fender tags aren't the official bearer of VINs.

What the Feds and the states get anal about is the VIN on the dashboard that's visible through the windshield. That's what the motor vehicle depts. look at, not under the hood.

It's just the Mopar freaks that are anal about fender tags, and we won't tell if you put yours on a new fender.

That is, unless your car is a Plum Crazy Hemi Cuda convertible. In that case we want photos and documentation by GG of the transfer.

It's mounted with phillips screws so it's no big deal.
