Does anyone sell a shorter water pump for a 360? If so, I would guess they have pulleys for it too.

I believe the Magnum water pump is shorter, but it's reverse rotation so you'd need the magnum timing cover, which is also shorter. Probably need to convert to the magnum pulleys too.

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

the pre 70 cast iron pump is significantly shorter but the nipple is on the DR side so if your rad nipple is on that same side there is barely enough room to see the marks if you aim the light just right or you can make a new tab for the pass side & there's a guy that has several of the 68 ish pass side bolt on timing tabs for $20 to your door and a new corresponding dampener slit. I believe MP has a race cast iron (thin) pump with the nipple on the pass side (like the later alum ones) but it is $$$ & you might not need the flow for a stock app but the nipple would be on the pass side & it is a thinner pump. You sure you cant solve your dilemma with the right pulley?

The problem is firewall to radiator space.

Do you have one of those Champion radiators? They make the fan spacing real close.

What viscous clutch fan are you using? Have you tried the Jan Fan Clutch: Hayden 2765 ? It's about the shortest still available except for the 070 repops: https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/show...e=0#Post8316897

If the dimentions of the Hayden clutch fan setup mentioned dont do the trick then a different rad or a shorter pump. I called the dealer just now & the MP pump I mentioned is NS1 but likely one of the aftermarket pump mfrs has one (thin with pass nipple) then a shallower pulley to bring the belt groove back forward to align with the crank/alt pulleys. As you know you can move the alt back & forth a bit & Mancini has different thickness spacers for the crank pulley to come forward & a hardcore option would be to machine the dampener face to move the pulley rearward. Holler how it turns out & post the length of the Hayden if you find that info

It's a 360/727 going into my 89 Ram 50. Radiator is already in front of the core support instead of behind it. If I pulled the steering box and put in a rack and pinion I could move the engine back 1.5" more. (The mini starter hits the steering box). If I cut the firewall out, and put in the rack If have room for days, but... Well.... I don't want to.

I'm 90% certain I can make it work as is! but it will be tight. I put a 340 into one of these a few years ago. But on that one I put the radiator in the bed.

If there was a water pump, crank pully and alternator setup that was 1" or more shorter that stock it would be a breeze.

I ain't measured lately but iirc the cast iron early one is ~1" thinner than the alum 360 one. You might be able to press the "cross" rearward a bit for some gain but support the shaft on the back side when you press it & likely would need a WP pulley with a non tapered body. Press it a fraction of an inch at a time/mock back up/continue as needed. I would get a cheap parts house iron pump & mock it up. The nipple would be on the wrong side but you could get the rest of your fitment taken care of then return the pump if you dont scratch/mar it & first you'd wanna see if one of the pump mfrs has an early thin one with the nipple on the pass side since Ma dont anymore then if it all fits up correct make your purchase
