The Red Brick has new home in my garage. It arrived last week and I'm getting to know my new toy. Had to sell my 66 Barracuda that I owned since 1987, but I felt I had to give this car a try when the opportunity came up.

It's a little bizarre seeing a car that you've read about online for years sitting in your garage. Not sure why, it's just weird to me.

I'm going to play with on the street as much as I can get away with and maybe do some track days. My only problem with track days is that I have no way to tow it to the track. Didn't think that part through very well.

Is this the car that Scott Smith bought from Tim Werner? If so, why the heck did Scott sell it? I thought he had some big plans for it!

I wanted Lee to have the chance to make the announcement, congrats Lee!

It is a GREAT car and I had a tough time deciding what to do with it when a few unexpected events in my life forced a decision. I'm building a new home and had the chance to buy a 340 Demon I have always wanted, and then a Hemi Belvedere fell into my lap, so something had to go. TOUGH choice! That little red Valiant is a VERY fun and well sorted car, it is a BLAST to drive!

*Lee, just drive it to the track, I did and it went just fine

Just drive the car to the track!
That's how it usually goes. What part of NorCal are you in? Thunderhill and Infineon should be only a few hours drive. Laguna Seca has 90db limits though. I'm going to Buttonwillow late Dec. if you're interested to see what that car was built for!

Congrats on your score! What does the Red Brick use for front brakes?

It is a semi-custom kit using Baer componenents. 6P calipers on custom brackets, custom built Mopar/Mustang aluminum hubs and a Viper/Mustang combo rotor.

Congrats on the purchase! Hope you can find a way to get her to the track on a regular basis.

Will you run it in the pending mopar shootout? It needs to be there IMHO.

Thanks. I think my Barracuda went to a good home. The guy who bought it is a Mopar guy and was super excited when he saw it in person for the first time. It was tough to let it go, but I had to do it.

Andy, I may need to pick your brain about some things about the car.

Thanks! I hope so, too. My brother has got the track day bug real bad and has a truck and trailer, so I might be able to convince him to haul it to the track in exchange for letting him drive it.

Dunno about the shootout. When & where is it?

Unsure when and where it may be. The idea was to get all the track mopars to the same track. Possibly a west coast event and an east coast event. I think the group was collectively waiting for the green brick and Kevin's dart sport builds to wrap up (spring of 2015) before making official plans.

At my advanced age your best bet is to read the magazine articles! I usually have to look at the articles myself before I remember what all we did to the car. I think all of the articles are in the tech archives on here. Some in the SB section, some in the Chassis area.

I will say that if you're planning on driving it on the street then you should change the rear gears. Something like 3.23 or 3.54 would turn that car into a monster on the street.

That car when it left my shop was designed to beat the Vettes and the Vipers at Portland International. The 2.94 rear gear is in there so the car will pull 160 mph at the end of the front straight at PIR. If you aren't planning on going 160 mph in the car then no reason killing the clutch at every stop light.

You don't need to put a lot of rear gear into the car since the engine has a ton of torque, but something like a 3.23 or 3.54 will help the clutch live and yet won't force you to shift before you get across the intersection.

I did this at Spokane Raceway, it delivered! 160 plus was not difficult and it handled great at speed, front end felt nice and tight and the brakes brought it down quickly at the end of the straights without any drama.

We have had a Mopar Shootout/Track Day for years now at Spring Fling Speed Festival (April 9, 2015). We invite all Mopars old and new to participate in a organized track day with tons of track time, and instructors that are used to older cars.

lilcuda, you and your brother could split drive time for same cost.

It's the largest gathering of older Mopars on a Road Course in the country.

As a matter this red Valiant has been there. All the way from Oregon. So has the:

66 Barracuda Lemons car of Rocket Restoration from Washington
66 Coronet from Oklahoma.
71 Cuda Pikes Peak car of Jess Neal from Colorado
66 Barracuda "team starfish" from Oregon

Lots of others car from all over northern California, Nevada, Arizona.

April 9th. Well, it is painted now and I have most of the pieces. I need to do a little assembly now... you guys let Texans come visit the state?
