Door panel is off. Button and mechanism looks to all be working. Is there some type of fail safe or part of the mechanism that can be moved manually to get the door open? Also what could be broke to keep the door from opening. thx matt

Cars fine. Broken striker? The door didn't want to stay closed at all then it shut tight but won't budge. Panels off looking @ latch looks ok. The pin was stable. in the door. any ideas?

Sounds like the stricker is adjusted so that the door is too tight. Try pushing in on the door while trying to open it. Some WD40 sprayed around the lock won't hurt either.

First try pulling up or down while pulling hard with the button depressed. Next, do the same while a buddy kicks the door open from the inside. Sounds brutal but is sometimes the only way.

True story. I put new door panels on my car and could not get either door open, I had my father in law come over who is a mechanic as I tried everything and was dumb founded. He said try the simplest things first..He put some grease on the internal door mechanisms, 12 years later the doors still work fine, who would figure two doors needing it at the same time, I still cannot believe it and I was there.

Had the same problem with the door not wanting to stay closed on a '70 B-body. My son freaked out and swore it was "shot" and he left the scene. I opened the door and examined the latch mechanism on the door (that contacts the striker on the chassis) and applied silicone spray to the small shaft with spring. The white plastic piece rides on this small shaft. The door stays shut when closed, now. Not sure if this relates to your situation, but may be a good idea once you get the door open! Can you spray the latch area at all with the door stuck shut?????

Okay, I see that your sense of humor has taken flight. Lots of different personality types here. Be prepared for a variety of responses.
In my defense, a locked door still allows the button to be pushed though the mechanism inside is "freewheeling".
I've had your situation happen many times. Most often it is that the adjustment of the door is out of whack. The striker gets bound up against the latch. Sometimes lifting UP on the handle dislodges the interference. The Striker is adjusted with a large TORX bit, can't recall the exact size.

Franken not a problem. The door had been working fine and not dragging on the striker. For a few days the door wouldn't latch. I got to to close tight but now it won't open. The door panel is off and been checking all the latch parts it is just stuck shut. All the mechanisms seem to be working fine. Lock, Handle button inside handle and the key lock. Anymore ideas! thx matt

Okay....So this aint one of the EASY fixes!
I'll guess that you have already flooded the latch with a WD40 or PB blaster type lubricant. A long drift and a light tapping with a hammer may pop it loose.
It may not. report back, we WILL "figger" it out.

I've seen where the inside handle will release the door but not the outside button pushing. There is an adjustment in that situation that can be made with linkage in door to get the latch to let loose of the striker.

Bent link (operating push rod)inside the door? Have seen them bent and not release the latch.

I would look here too, and try to open from the inside. Mine gave me issues when it was really cold and the old grease got hard and didn't let the linkage move freely. I bent part of the linkage and the car would only open from the inside. Straightening one of the rods in the linkage took care of it. Then I cleaned off all of that old grease and lubed everything with PB Blaster.
