trans in neutral, transfer case in neutral, and tow away. i added an air raid air filter kit, and throttle body spacer, and a tuner for the computer, and had no problems lighting them up. cat back exhaust, and i saw a slight increase in mpg. the main thing was quicker acceleration, and more torque on the low end. weld some tow tabs on, or get some frame mounted ones, and get the light kit, so you can run the tail lights and turn signals, while towing.

it already has the K&N cold air kit, i''l look for the spacer.do you remember the name of the tuner for the computer? I was told to put the transfer case in neutral and the tranny in park when towing? will be using the blue ox tow bar system, I do have to get a light kit. did you have to get a brake assist for towing? I think our law states anything over 3000lbs has to have brakes while towing? thanks for the help

tranny in park? my stick didn't have park as a choice. if auto, then yes, in park. i wouldn't worry about the brake assist. you won't even feel the jeep back there*. in fact, you might even forget it, and back up while holding it. it's been a while, but i'm thinking the comp got a "jet stage 2" module. a 62mm throttle body also went on. for the add-ons, i take what the manufacturer claims, then subtract 50% from their low number. if you add-on 40 hp worth of stuff, figure 15-20hp actual gains. opening up the exhaust is probably the single biggest benefit for the 4.0, short of a ported head and a cam. * i never towed my jeep behind anything, i just towed with it. i've always sold a jeep, for more than i paid for it. they retain value if you take care of them, and use quality parts while keeping the factory take-offs in boxes.

I have heard lots of people say the throttle body spacers don't do anything. That makes sense to me because its not flowing fuel, so all it really does is add a small amount of plenum volume.
I have been running a stroked 4.0 for about 10 years now, love it.

that silver one looks like it's ready to roll. take care of it, and you'll be able to sell it, for what you paid for it.
as far as throttle body spacers not working, i'll refer you to the testing done on all motor mods, by 4 wheeler network. they have done real world testing on a large collection of "power mods" for the 4.0. i'm not sure why it works with mpfi systems, but it does offer some gains. maybe the added plenum volume allows for less turbulence? maybe the motor just think the thing looks cool, so it tries harder? who knows.

yours looks nice also, thanks for the help the big tires and wheels are coming off. I picked up 5 brand new Michelin 17" tires and wheels tonight for $350. going to put a black hardtop on it and then start working on the motor.

Actual increase according to the article was 1hp, unless it's free and puts itself on I'm not so sure it's worth it lol.
While I have never dyno'd mine I have never noticed an increase when I ran an open element filter. It very well could be up some horsepower but I think that is washed put by extra heat intake etc(in my application).
I have always wanted to try one of the newer intake manifolds on my stroker but never have. I stuck this thing together ten years ago and it's been so good I hate to mess with it.
tell me about your stroker?

It's a budget stroker made with stock parts. Lots of info on the internet and many ways of doing it. It uses a stock 4.0 block, stock AMC 258 crank and rods, and 4.0 pistons.
It really goes together seamlessly, nothing had to be modified other than shimming the crank girdle up to clear the extra stroke. The stock crank girdle is super flimsy but I put it back on anyways, can't hurt.
I used ford Motorsport 24lb injectors and a crane cam. It runs well, it's in my xj Cherokee that is lifted with 35" tires. It weighs about 4400lbs and it moves well. It will run 80mph with the AC blasting no problem. It will also push it way faster than it needs to. Math says I have done about 115with it when it had 33" tires on it.
There is more parts available now than there was ten years ago. Kb makes a piston to use the longer 4.0 rod with the 258 crank. I think the longer rod might help flatten the power some, it's kind of peaky like this. But I am sure some of that comes from the ecu programming not being ideal for an extra 37 cubes although it handles it well and has no problems.
These motors are pretty tough, a friend of mines Dad has a stroker 4.0 in a little altered car, it's been 9.40s with a ported stock head. He spins it to the moon and it's held together well for a few seasons now.

Is been beaten like a rented mule off-road. It's seen hours of idle time with the AC on in the trails when it was over 100* outside(sometimes the wife goes lol). It's also seen rev limiter climbs and all sorts of fun. The fact that it's a stroker made from parts of two of the most bullet proof motors around shows sometimes.
