finally got back to illinois to check the ol girl out... pulled the rockers, pushrods and lifters. it appears my issue was stuck lifters, pushed down with all my weight and the pushrod cup had no give at all. the wear surface looked fine and from what i could see through the head the cam lobes looked fine. i'll be doing an oil change on her soon as i'm done with my buick t-type, at which point i'll cut open the filter for further investigation of cam wipeage. would it be best to purchase all new lifters and pushrods or just lifters?

my cam is a crower 32240 cam. intake/exhaust: 260/267 degrees with .456/.477 lift. was wondering if anyone had an idea where i can get some good quality lifters and pushrods for this cam? if i do need them.

Are you 150% sure it's not an exhaust leak ? A leak at the head will sound like a lifter tick.

Those parts aren't in my hand so I can't say whether they are good or bad for certain.

Do you have a magnifying glass to look at the base for pitting ?

Might try soaking them in Marvel Mystry Oil. Re-install and then run a pint in while running. I did that and problem solved.

A bad valve will tick also.

Show us a picture of the top of the lifter, all the lifters if you can.

2nd post pics of top of lifters, your not going to be able to push plunger down once there pumped up.

A new Remflex gasket fixed mine. Couldn't feel air escape at all. Very tiny leak caused tick.

yeah it's not an exhaust leak, i ran the motor with valve covers off and pressed on the suspect rockers (only 4) with a piece of wood and it quieted up... my camera phone is decent, i'll attach zoomed in images but doesn't appear to have bad pitting.

was thinking the lifters would have drained out after sitting for a year without being run?? i've only tested two suspect lifters then got distracted by work :/ i will be testing the rest soon. what should i be looking for once they are apart?

will try the mystery oil once i've got a few apart for further inspection.

any suggestions on ways to test a bad valve? motor was a warmed up rebuild with 0 miles that had sat for like 3-4 years.

i'll post a couple of the suspect lifter tops that i have pictured, once i get back down to the shop i'll snap some of them all.

take the tappet apart and see if it's dirty inside. could be a set of those crappy Stanadyne tappets.

took apart one of the lifters with difficulty, think i'm going to let them drain out a bit before taking apart the rest. the one didn't look too dirty but the oil in it was gummy and seemed thicker than normal?? there is some rust pitting on a few of them as well... i'm not sure what could be going on. i'll check the cam lobes hopefully tomorrow. not really sure what else to check?
