I'm getting ready to rebuild my numbers matching 340 for my AAR. Couple questions for the gurus. I want to keep it as close to stock looking as possible for correctness, but want a little more oomph.

What would be a good setup to go with?

And secondly, for the SoCal guys, who do you suggest to do the motor work?

Gong to be a street setup, use as stock parts, 6 pack intake.

Thanks,

Jon

For what you are talking about I think Joe Jill at Superior Automotive would be a good call. http://www.superiorautomotive.com/

Edit: or Brian at Indio Motor and Machine .wwwimmengines.com/contactus.html

I had found IMM. Was looking for all the options to choose from.

Don't play-- just stroke it-- and keep it 100% stock on the outside--that with some professional head work and proper cam--Bingo!

Three things:

1. Lightweight pistons. Your stockers weigh in at 720 grams plus pins. You should be able to get pistons at 500 grams plus pins, and there are lightweight pins.

2. Better rods. I'd use a rod weighing no more than 640 grams, one with 7/16" rod bolts. Then you can rev that 340 to the moon, especially with the light pistons.

3. More flow. I don't know what your budget looks like or your tolerance for changes, but Brian at IMM is where I'd go for work and advice, he's got that smallblock thing pretty figured out.

Either the EQ-type iron heads or some aluminum ones or your stockers ported. A 7000 rpm 340 takes a bunch of airflow.

R.

Keep in mind that the 340 rod/pin/piston combo is extremely heavy, similar to a bigblock chevy.

Thanks for the input. The best way to get a hold of IMM is to call them?
