Pray for us in the NW. This piece of property would be pretty desireable for development. Lets hope someone with deep pockets and more interested in racing than housing comes along.....

I wondered if the recent improvements in the facility were a polish in order to sell. The Fioritos aren't getting any younger.

Good thing the recent money was put into it. For many years SIR was a pretty bare-bones facility in rough shape.

Doesn't seem like the revenue and net profit from ownership would be a very good ROI on the millions the land is worth.

Hope for the best....it would be sad indeed if we were left with Bummertown.

I would be very disappointed if the property was broken up and turned into just another housing development

If we can believe the press release, that is not the future. As long as there are racers of all kinds, there has to be a venue for us to play with our toys. I think the answer is for a group of investors to buy the property for exclusive automotive use and follow the plan in the press release. That way the facility would be an economic engine for the area without the expense to the county of developing all the infrastructure (road network, water & sewer systems, utilities of all kinds) necessary to support housing development.

Not sure how it is done WA state but in most places the sub-division developer puts in most if not all of the above services/infrastructure during the development phase and then turns it all over to the city/county for tax credits. If it is going to be a gated community does not apply. The community owns/maintains all of this and just pays for connections to the city/county services.

Ownership of the infrastructure means you get to pay for the maintenance...the city of Seattle has major budget problems when it comes to paying for road repairs (potholes) and just last night I heard on the news that Tacoma is looking at a $970 million dollar budget shortfall when it comes to road repair. If a developer builds a road it would be just adequate for the immediate need and not overbuilt for future use and therefore you could count on future expense.

Pacific isn't just drag strip, it's a big multi-use complex. For this reason, I doubt it will fall into the hands of someone looking to develop housing. With that said, its obviously nervous times for racers in the PNW.

it's my understanding that they own the mineral rights. It will be interesting to see if they hold on to the mineral rights on the land. if it didn't stay a race track and being that the land is zoned light industrial can't see how they'll be able to put developments on the land. Would you want to buy a house right next to a rock crushing operation?
