Hello,

Is it correct that all 71 hoods for cuda/barracuda had the "PLYMOUTH" badge in the front of the hood..

Is it possible that a 71 cuda could come with a shaker hood w/o the badge if it was a early built car?

THANKS
Nicklas

That could be possible, but then the hood underside should also have no stress reliefs.

Kind of hard to tell but this early promo vid from 1971 appears to have no Plymouth hood emblem?

Just look under the hood in the area were the emblem would be. There will b 3 circles about 3/4 in diameter in the under bracing. the emblem gets placed thru the hood. A sheet metal nut would be up against the hood skin in that area ,not thru both layers. if your hood was not drilled & you have the reliefs in the underbracing , then you had no emblem.( wich is very odd & rare) 71 emblems have pins that go thru the hood.

As a side note ,AMD forgot to put those relief holes in the under brace on their Cuda shaker hoods. Another problem with repro stuff-its never exact!

That's just ONE area the AMD shaker hoods fall short, there are many subtle differences. I'd never use one on a real N96 car.

Yes Scott ,you are correct! I didn't want to get into the other areas as that would be a thread all in its own.

Early '71 hoods did NOT have the reliefs in the understructure of the hood as they were leftover '70 hoods that had no need for them. Most '71 SHAKER hood 'Cudas also do NOT have the reliefs as they also are non-crush zone left over '70 style hoods.

So Dan you are saying "early 71 Cuda shaker hoods had no reliefs" and then "most 71 Cuda shaker hoods have no reliefs".
Not sure there, and although I have not seen them all, 75% of the real 71 Cuda shaker hoods I have ever seen all have the reliefs.
The hinges also tell the tale with the different size mounting bolts, and I have seen more 71 hood hinges with 71 Cuda shaker hoods than 70 hinges.

Ok , just to be clear on when I said reliefs, I did not mean crumple zones. I meant the holes in the under bracing were the emblem would reside atop. Also ,yes every1 knows 70 hoods carried over onto some 71 cars. were talking 71 hoods!

Mine had a SPD of 118 and it had the emblem. I was the second owner car was pretty much untouched. I have never really seen a 71 without the emblem, but never say never.

I know of a 1971 Cuda build date of 926 shaker hood that has no crush zones but does have the Plymouth on the front of the hood. This car has been repainted and when I get to see it in person I will see if there are holes in the hood for the Plymouth. I guess I will did out my Nov 5th built Cuda with the shaker hood and see if the hood has the holes or not for the plymouth. It is a crush zone hood.

I have an original 1971 shaker hood that still has the original orange paint on it. Got it for a project years ago and never used it. It has no crumples on the underside and does have the three holes for the Plymouth emblem. The story that I got when I purchased the hood was that it was off a '71 hemicuda automatic car that was wrecked and parted out in the Bay Area in the early seventies.
