I have a 1990 Caravan, 2.5 turbo, auto trans. I recently rebuilt the head, and it runs fine. The problem I'm having is that I'm only getting 14 mpg around town. It is a totally stock Turbo 1 engine, and I think I should get better mileage than that around town. Any ideas, or am I just wishing here?

In my experience ... bad mpg = a faulty 02 sensor.

You should be getting better than 14 in the city. Have you tried filling the tank, taking a trip on the highway at a steady speed for an hour, then checking mileage? I know my 2.5 would seem like it was doing ususually bad on fuel, then I would take it on a highway trip and find the highway mileage was good, and the town mileage just was what it was.

You should dump it and sell it to me!

O2 sensors go bad slowly over time. If you replace it you will gain back milieage and power.

Did a code show the NEW ONE was faulty also ?

My mechanic friend had problems with new O2 sensors. He started using Bosch sensors only and he hasn't had any problems.. They are usually more money...

I checked for codes, it's not showing anything.

Couple things to check:

#1. Leaky injectors.
#2. Vacuum leaks.
#3. Spark plug gap, wire condition, etc.
#4. Valve Timing
#5. Ignition timing.
