I recently picked-up a 74 Dart-Swinger that the previous owner swapped in a 360 and an 8-3/4 rear. Mistake #1 was not plling the rims to see what I got BEFORE I handed over the $$$.

At any rate, what I ended up with was an early 8-3/4 rear that has redrilled axles for the large bolt pattern, large bolt pattern drums with the 7/16 lugs and the small bolt pattern Cragars re-drilled for the larger patttern. The

NOW the question. with the work being somewhat above a hack job, I plan on re-doing it all right. So with that said, who makes a good LBP axle with the Timken bearings (not green bearings)?

THANKS!!! Rick

The bearings are usually extra above the axles, so you can probably buy whatever axles you like, and then whatever bearings you like.

Cass beat me to saying he has the stuff....

Once you have the axles, then grab LBP backing plates and drums from any available LBP 8 1/4, 8 3/4, 9 1/4 etc...

I dont think the Cragars are redrilled, theres not enough meat on a 4 inch to do it. If they did actually do it junk them, cant be safe. They didnt make a BBP a-body 8 3/4, that shoulda been your first clue. Dont ya love hackers?

Yeah, I should have known better , but with all of the other right parts on the car, I figured that the rear must have been done up right, too. I'll probably just ask Santa for the right axles from Dr. Diff.
