I just picked up a 833 box for the Coronet. I know the trans cross members are different between the Flite and the standard, but I seem to recall reading that the auto member can be modifyied to standard specs. Can anyone enlighten me?
Street racing is a mystery to most people, but I've got it figured out. If it blows up with a single 4, go dual quads. If that goes, inject it. And fix it fast.

I've swapped from a 727 to an A833. The cross member stayed the same. The aftermarket tranny mounts are universal. You mount it one way for the 727 and flip it 90 degrees and it is the mount for the A833.

Depends on year. For 68 and and 69 B-bodies the cross member is different. There is a pocket that holds the trans mount for auto cars. But stick cars have the mount on the inside. Also depends on what year the transmission is.

66-69 I believe all you need to do is cut the part off that the automatic trans mount bolts too that sticks forwards, it interferes with the 833. Then the 833 mounts in the set of holes thats in line with the rest of the cross member. Make sense?

^^^ this , you could even leave the auto part on as it shouldn't really hit anything , the 70 trans used that mount point.
The spool mount above is completely wrong for a 70 down B body .

Agreed....just a little trimming of the Auto member will yield you a 4 spd member
Here's the top of the auto opened to show how the 4 psd rubber mount will drop into place, you can trim off all the Auto related brackets/plugs/plates to replicate a 4spd member

Mine is an August '69 build. When did they change to the spool mount?

I think the spool mount came along in 71 unless I am mistaken.

I appreciate all the responses. I should have mentioned that the car is a 69. The trans is a long tail OD unit. The bearing retainer has been turned down to fit the 4.807 opening bell housing. Thanks for the pics, I think I have a handle on it now. It looks like I'll be dealing with the 1970 set-up.

I'm going to guess you haven't tried to install it yet then because a Long tail OD trans with it's dual mount tail is the 70 up B/E tail and would use the automatic crossmember you have ...
Just an FYI , the 69 road runner I just finished the engine up on has it's original 4 speed trans, no fender tag but it is a late June built car going by the assembly date of it's original engine, and it has both mount pads cast onto the tail housing with the proper for 69 pad drilled/tapped and the 70 pad undrilled.

Your automatic crossmember should work with that trans.
