Ok....so I picked up a used coupler for my power steering swap.

It is the early style with out the small pin at the top of the coupler.

My understanding is that this pin was used to retain the shoes in the coupler.

Is the early style ok to use, are the dangerous.

Would it be worth it to drill the proper size hole and use the pin????

I just want to get this done and get the car back on the road!!!

With everything in and tightened I would find it hard to believe that the shaft would move enough to pop the shoes out. I would have no fear if your confident that the column is bolted in tight and both split rings are in at the upper shaft bearing.

Keep an eye on it. Your pot coupler cap will work off first if there would be any play. Btw, I don't have a pin in mine and there is no play.
