I need a power steering coupler for my cuda (switching to power from standard)

I know the couplers are not car specific, but what year did the coupler change.

Is it possible NAPA etc have one but under a newer model?

if we are talking about this:

and talking about a Cuda, you'll need to change the coupler body just because the diff size of the steering box splined stud ( smaller on powered ), not really due the year. The year change was waaaaaay earlier

Maybe will need to change the column shaft too? due the diff lenght? dunno

Yep that is the piece we are talking about.

I have already changed the shaft and the I know the standard coupler will not fit the power box.

My questions is what year did the stop using that type of coupler?

I have seen the aftermarket ones, but man are they pricey!!!

My friend (70aarcuda) put in a universal joint on his cars(70 & 71 abody). I think it would be better than getting another stock unit. PM him and he will tell you where he got his.

I have my serious reserve about those universal joints... On chassis cars they can work NICE, but not on unibody frames, since the body flex, and the Coupler designed by Chrysler allows this flex without affect the steering shaft assembly. That's the reason for this kind of coupler

Hey Jason,
I just went from power steering to manual steering. I have the complete original power steering coupling from my 70 challenger. It has everything you need except the roll pin that holds it on to the shaft.

PM me if interested. I will give you a good deal if your interested.

Hey Thanks man.

I appreciate the offer. I really need one in the next day or so in order to make the big show (Moparfest) this coming Saturday.

Given you are in PA and I am in Canada, probably not gonna get here in time.

If I cant find one, I will let you know.

Jason

Didn't know you had to change the coupler. Went from standard steer to power on my 72 RR and had to only change the shaft because of length. What is the difference in the coupler???

The input shaft on the steering boxes are different sizes.

Are you sure you did not change the coupler.

Can some one please confirm that the input shafts are different sizes?

well, you can actually try it right now... your actual coupler into the newer manual box... or simply measure the diameter input shaft on both boxes you have at this moment

yep, but I am at work and not near the car.

Everything I read indicated that you need a different coupler.

I will check tonight.

Jason
