Putting a 440source billet flywheel on my 318 going back in my car and I was wondering if I needed to leave the weight on it or take it off. The motor is a 74 318. I know the converter wasn't weighted but I'm new to manual trans stuff

i thought all 318's were neutral or zero balanced. i don't think there should be any extra weight on it.

All 318s and 5.2 Magnums are neutral balanced.
If you have a "one-size-fits-all" flywheel, the extra weight(s) should be left off. There are four different amounts of imbalance: largest for 360, next for the 5.9 Mag, next for cast crank 383s, 400s and 440s, and smallest for the heavy rod 440s.

Ill take it off then, I had to wait on a pilot bushing and it finally showed up today anyway so I'll take it off before it goes on. Thanks guys!

Rats, I forgot about those.
Ya just haveta love Mopar for having all those different "Detroit balance" values.
I think ford had a better idea. 28 oz-inch or 50 oz-inch or internally balanced.

if you bought a new flywheel for your 318 specifically the weight could be for the balance of the flywheel. if you take it off you may create an imbalance.
